Joanne WERNER Obituary

WERNER, Joanne Beloved mother of Cory and Jesse Lipman; dear sister to Dianne Werner Simon and Edward Werner. Joanne passed away Wednesday August 10th after a long battle with cancer which she fought with tenacity and grace. Joanne dedicated her life to helping others: she worked for many years as a nurse, received her Master's Degree in Adult Education and Counselling, and went on to become a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist (RMFT) and Family Counsellor with the Region of Durham for many decades. She had a kind, loving, and compassionate spirit, a love for nature, and a laugh that could brighten any room. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. A memorial date at Mount Pleasant Cemetery and Funeral Centre will be announced in the near future.

Grateful for my years with Joanne as a colleague. I still smile when I think of the beautiful plant she had waiting for me on my first day of work at FSD and the beautiful gift she gave me when my son was born. She had exquisite taste! Wishing you rest now, Joanne. Peace be with you and yours.

I am so very sorry to hear of Joanne's passing. She was a dear person who brought great energy and a great variety of books to our book club. She fought so long and hard, beating the odds more than once. She will be missed. Please let me know when there will be a memorial service.

My thoughts are with you, Corry as you navigate this new loss. I will share with you what I wrote to your mother just a few weeks ago.

Joanne, you did the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me. You imagined my life without Len (Boyko), and worked some powerful magic to give me the emotional strength and the resources to continue on as a single parent, without the stress and worry of how to maintain my life and the lives of Laura and Erik. You got us through it. I'll never forget that. You are my very dear friend.
I love you to infinity, and back.

Joanne was my colleague since the early 1980s at Family Services Durham, a friend and a book club buddy. She has always been a passionate therapist, a caring person, and a very classy lady. Joanne had great ideas and plans about enjoying life, whether a super trip, an amazing restaurant, or a great boutique. I know how hard she worked to fight this cancer. She inspired me. I will miss her. My deep condolences to the family.
