John Avenins Obituary

JOHN 'JANIS' AVENINS Peacefully passed away at home on Thursday, April 24th, 2008 after celebrating with friends what would have been his 85th birthday. Predeceased by his beloved wife Lucia. Dear father of Sylvia (Ed) and Andrew (Karen). Proud grandfather of Peter, Matthew and Aidan. He also leaves behind family in Latvia, where he was born in the area of Madona on April 30th, 1923. He will be remembered for his participation as a bass vocalist in Latvian choirs and as an active member of Latvian society. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman. Visitation Thursday, May 1st from 5 - 9 p.m. at York Cemetery Chapel and Reception Centre, 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto (416-221-3404). Funeral Mass on Friday, May 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at RESURRECTION PARISH CHURCH, 1 Resurrection Road (Bloor and Dundas near Kipling). Interment to follow at York Cemetery. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Latvian organization of your choice.
