BENNETT, John L. - On May 23, 2009 in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of the late Therese Smith. Loving father of Maureen, Kevin (Maureen), and Brian (Jennette). Dear brother of Kathleen, grandfather of Rachelle (James), Shawn, Colin, Dylan and Ivy. Predeceased by his parents Dr. John and Mae Bennett and his sister Mary and brother Frank. He served for 4 years as the first Chairman of the Toronto Archdiocese of the ShareLife campaign. Past President of the Toronto Archdiocese Holy Name Society and Council of Catholic Men. Past Chairman of the Toronto section of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace. Graduate of St. Michael's College, University of Toronto. Past board member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Credit Union Chapter, St. Mary's Credit Union and Newman Alumni in Kitchener. In 1981, he was awarded the papal honour Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester by Pope John Paul II. Friends may call at Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E., on Tuesday, May 26, from 2-4 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, 3216 Lawrence Ave. E., on Wednesday, May 27th at 10 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill, Ontario.
