Mary Ann,
I really liked John, not only as a colleague but as a real friend. He was the most dedicated physician I have seen. His knowledge was vast and he really cared. He made sure all his patients had a physician to go to, as soon as he found out he was sick. I remember him texting me a couple of weeks ago and asking whether I had operated on one of his patients.Wanted to make sure she was covered and not forgotten. This is something you don't see often. Kathy and I are thinking of you and wishing you peace and comfort as you remember John.

Mary Ann, on behalf of the Board of the AHC, and the general membership, I would like to offer our condolences to you and the family. We understand that "stuff" happens and we can do little about it, but it is even more tragic that his passing coincides with the termination of an excellent career, and deprives him of a wonderful retirement with his family. On a personal note, all of my patients were looked after exceedingly well, with great expertise and kindness. When I would stop him in the hallway, wanting to ask a question, he was always ready to discuss any matter or concern I may have had. Not only the family, but the community will miss him as well

Although I knew him for only a brief time, Dr. John Faulkner's warm demeanour was immediately evident when he first welcomed me to teaching rounds at NYGH with open arms this past September. His caring and giving legacy will undoubtedly live on amongst the many patients he treated, the colleagues with whom he worked, and the many friends he made along the way during his journey of life. You will be sorely missed John. Rest in peace.

Dear Mary-Ann,
Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Every interaction with John was impactful. He was thoughtful, caring, generous with his time and sincere with his advice. I'll miss his mentorship and "Faulknerisms", but most of all I'll miss our friendship. Among his attributes and accolades, it was always clear to me that he was most proud of his family and being a devoted husband, father and grandfather. May you have strength during this difficult time and keep his lasting memory in your heart always.

Dear Mary-Ann
I am sorry to hear of John's passing. He was an amazing colleague and an insightful thinker in our division over many years. John was a team player. He had an unbelieveable memory for long forgotten events and could always make us laugh with his recollections. He was meticulous in his approach to a patient's investigation and in planning their treatment.
I will miss his special sense of humour and his collegiality.
Mary-Ann, I am sorry that Pat and I are away and will not be able to attend the celebration of his life.
Please know that you and the family are in our thoughts and prayers. May you gain strength at this difficult time from the many wonderful memories you have of your time together.

Dear Faulkner family, I met John in the sixties at Ontario Pioneer Boys Camp, a wonderful Christian camp in Port Sydney operated by IVCF where I was a volunteer. He was one of Cobber's boys, a group of young guys befriended by the Australian camp director at the time. He was fun loving and very articulate even then. with an unforgettable voice! Then, 40 years later, when I broke my arm skiing at Blue, he was my ortho guy at North York General Hospital! My arm healed well under his care. What a small small world. How wonderful that John was able to make such a huge contribution to it during his 70 years. May the Lord comfort and bless each of you during this difficult time. Sincerely, Mary Noble (Pioneer Camp friend)

As a 12 year old Sunday School student at Royal York RD United Church, I was thrilled to have a 17 year old football player as my teacher. Suddenly Sunday School was fun. John was interesting, and made us want to be there. He became someone I looked up to, and I later became a Sunday School teacher, and a football player. He was a great role model for me. So sorry for your loss.

Dear Dr. Pubben and family,
My sincere and heartfelt condolences for you, Katie, Tim, Mac and of course Mae. I have known Dr. Faulkner for over 20 years in the Fracture Clinic and up on 4 west. He was a gracious and skilled surgeon that really cared for his patients. He would never give up when trying to find out what underlying issues a patient had. He was a real "problem solver". He always had a funny comment and/or story to tell that would make me laugh or brighten my day. He spoke with such high regard and said he was very proud and lucky to have such a loving family. I will also miss his lovely "mushroom meringues." You will be greatly missed Dr. Faulkner but always thought of.

I was deeply saddened to hear about such a true gentleman's passing. Dr. Faulkner repaired my shattered ankle in 2007 with which I have had no problem since. A year ago he replaced a friend's knee and I was glad to see him while I was visiting. Sure enough he remembered me and my not so easy name. Taken too young but he gave so much to so many in that short time.

John and I have been colleagues for 40 years since we were research fellows together at Sick Kids. He always had a wonderful sense of fun. He was an accomplished surgeon, who had a lot to be proud of in his career, but I think he was most proud of his children. I loved his stories, his wit, and our long conversations together, solving the problems of the world. Rest in peace John, I'll miss you.

Dear Mary-Ann,
I'm so sorry for your loss. John is a wonderful colleague and I will miss listening to his stories and chatting about his family. He talks about the whole family so much every week. I also valued his professional opinion as he is well versed in both surgical and medical aspects. He is very thorough with his patients and I know that they enjoyed spending that time with him. I am unable to make it to the celebration but your family will be in my thoughts.

Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your husband and father.
I had the good fortune of working with Dr. Faulkner for many years, most recently at TJAC. He was a gifted surgeon with extreme attention to detail which was evident in the care he provided to his patients.
Our small team at TJAC quickly learned that he was a family man, and was fiercely proud of his children. He often shared pictures of his wife, children, and granddaughter. He had a great sense of humour, uncanny memory, and was incredibly caring and generous to the staff. We would look forward to good conversations, and also learned he had remarkable baking talents and enjoyed his "mushroom meringue" specialty over the holidays.
May you find comfort and strength during this difficult time knowing that he touched the lives of many.
He will be sorely missed.

Dr. Faulkner replaced my hip 3 years ago. I was immediately struck by his manner. He looked me right in the eye, shook my hand firmly, apologized for the wait, asked why I had come to see him, and then sat back and listened intently to my many questions and concerns. He helped me make the decision to have surgery, and I completely trusted him. He was not only a brilliant surgeon, but a kind and caring doctor. He combined the art and science of being a doctor in such a way that I had tremendous respect for him. He was also very funny at times, and loved to tell stories of his travels and his family.
I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest condolences. He died far too soon.

Dear Dr. Pubben and family
Dr. Faulkner was a gifted surgeon and a compassionate, remarkable person. Having had 2 surgeries last year, he always found the time during his rounds to sit on the edge of my bed and have a chat about many different topics. His sense of humour and outlook on life were unique. He had a way of making you feel that you were his only patient. He returned me to a life of mobility free of pain for which I will always be grateful. I hope that memories of happy times will be of comfort to you as you begin your journey of healing.

Dr. Faulkner ended up as my mothers doctor in the last 3 months of her life, she came into the hospital with disintegrated bones in both legs. We expected they would amputate because of the short time she had left. He replaced the bones and she was walking with help 2 days after the operation. We are still amazed that he went to this trouble and he accomplished so much. He was also the most accomplished student at Royal York Collegiate. There is also the connection that I went though public school with Bill (hello) and my sister went though Royal York with Tom.(he was remembered at his high school reunion about 3 years ago. What a profound lose.......

I was so saddened to hear of Dr Faulkners passing. I was fortunate enough to work with him at the TJAC clinic for nearly 11 years! He was a gifted surgeon but more than that, a wonderful human being. Generous, witty and had an encyclopedic mind! A true renaissance man, we had numerous conversations about his time in Italy or our mutual love of art. He adored his family and would tell the staff all the amazing things his kids were doing. He shared pictures of Mae at every clinic.
May he Rest In Peace and his legacy live on in his children. My deepest condolences to you all.
