JOHN KOVACS Obituary

KOVACS, JOHN VIKTOR John Viktor Kovacs was born in Vienna, Austria, on November 18, 1934. He passed awaym on January 28, 2022, in Toronto, Canada. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Barbara Kovacs (Katzor), his daughter, Sandra Caryl (Kovacs), his grandson, Maximillian Caryl, his son-in-law, Craig Caryl, his niece Sasha Kovacs and her daughter Greta White, his nephew, Derek Kovacs, his sister-in-law, Eva Kovacs and his nephew, Peter Kovacs. John Kovacs ran a successful plumbing and heating contracting company in Toronto, Canada, and a development company that built custom homes in the Lawrence Park area of Toronto. John Kovacs lived a full life, having resided in Italy as a child, then moving with his two brothers Frank and Peter and parents Adele and Lesley to Budapest, Hungary. In 1957, John and his elder brother, Frank Kovacs, moved to Vienna, Austria, and then Canada, where both he and his brother started their own companies. Always well-dressed and handsome with a sense of fun and adventure, he was a natural athlete. He was a semi-professional water polo player, an alpine skier, and took up his wife Barbara's love for tennis, becoming an exceptional player with his strong serve and volley. Any sport John Kovacs tried, he excelled at with bravery and flamboyance including water skiing and horseback riding. He and his wife Barbara played in tennis tournaments together and were an outstanding team, often spending three hours on the court on summer nights and weekends. On a family trip to Cuba, John and his daughter Sandra rode their stallions in a rodeo taking the attention of the local cowboys. John played endlessly in the swimming pool at their home in Toronto with his grandson, Max. A lover of animals especially big dogs, the house was always filled with pets, sometimes numerous pets at a time. The family Airedale, Asta, even travelled with the family to Florida on spring break. Barbara and John were a beautiful couple, turning heads wherever they went. Both enjoyed the finer things in life, such as clothing, antiques, flowers, fine cuisine, the ballet and vacations in Florida, the Bahamas and Europe. Laughter, conversations in the multiple languages both John and Barbara spoke and plans for the next trip or adventure often with longtime friends defined a life well-lived. Barbara and John Kovacs thank all the caregivers and doctors who supported them in the last years of John Kovacs' life, with gratitude. A Private Family Service has been held at Pine Hills Funeral Centre on Thursday, February 3rd. Online condolences at: https://mountpleasantgroup.permavita.com/site/JohnViktorKovacs.html
