John ONIZUKA Obituary

ONIZUKA, John (Yuki) - June 20, 1927 - February 4, 2015 Peacefully passed away at the age of 87 surrounded by his loving family at Mackenzie Health Hospital on February 4, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Rits (nee Sugimoto) for 46 wonderful years. Cherished father of Russell, David and Jon. He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. John completed his Pharmacy degree, graduating in the first Pharmacy class at the University of Toronto and he proudly practiced Pharmacy for 44 years. John enjoyed sports that included playing goalie with the Pharmacy lacrosse team, hockey and golf and was an avid gardener. He was a founding member and served on the board of directors at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. John will be greatly missed by his sons, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and all who knew him. Friends and family will be received at the Highland Funeral Home, 3280 Sheppard Avenue East (west of Warden Avenue), 416-773-0933, on Saturday, February 7th from 2 - 6 p.m. A private family service will be held at a later date.
