JOHN POLAK Obituary

POLAK, JOHN April 26, 1966 - March 12, 2022 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Polak, on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the age of 55. Beloved husband of Mary (Ouroumis) for 28 years. Extremely proud father of Nicole and Lauren. Cherished son of Jiri and the late Vera (Mikovcova). Loving brother of Blanka (John) and Pete. Uncle of Madi, Quinn, and Ben. Son-in-law of Dorothy Ouroumis (late Alex). Brother-in-law of Mitsa (Fred). John will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his many dear friends, extended family, and Cody the cat. With his contagious smile and positive outlook, John lived life to the fullest and generously shared his love with family and friends. While working as a CPA for 29 years, his main interests were the outdoors, travelling, and fishing. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to all of the staff at the Wallace McCain Centre, and to staff on floors 17B and 16P at Princess Margaret Hospital. A visitation will be held at the York Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto, on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m.; Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 9-10 a.m. Funeral Service in the Chapel to follow at 10 a.m. Webcasting will also be made available for this event. Dear Jiri, Pete, Mary and family. We are so very sad to learn of John's passing in today's local paper and our hearts go out to you now and the days ahead. In the 1970s we travelled together to sports games and watched alongside Jiri and Vera who spoke lovingly of John, Blanka and Peter. As well, John worked one summer at the Public Health Department on Prospect St. in Newmarket where his work ethic shone through even back then. By the sounds, John went on to become an even finer man who brought such joy to others and much pride to everyone who knew him. May you find much comfort knowing he is by his mother's side and the two of them are watching over you. May your memories keep him close and his smile shine down on you for inspiration. God bless all of you. Jim, Kathy and the O'Reilly family.

We worked together at The Scarborough Hospital Foundation. He arrived just before Nicole was born. Lauren followed a while after, and we were treated to visits by the family from time to time. John was a proud and happy dad, who kept us updated on his girls, and on Mary's impressive marathon training. He was a steady presence and a great listener, who always had a way of putting things into calm perspective. A foodie, and big fan of Iron Chef, he got me hooked on the show, and on improving my culinary skills. My family thanks him for that! Last year, we caught up briefly over LinkedIn, where he shared that, at the time, Nicole was in 3rd year at Western. I was glad for the chance to chat, not realizing that it would be our last. He left a world--that needs more people like him--much too soon. But, he left it a better place, and with his spirit carrying on, in his lovely family, no doubt.
My heartfelt condolences to you, Mary, Nicole and Lauren.
