CARRUTHERS, Dr. JOHN "JACK" SCOTT March 6, 1931 - August 24, 2017 Died peacefully at home. Jack was predeceased by his wife, Jane Clark Carruthers (nee Woolley), of 56 years, his parents, Dr. Calvert Mitchell Carruthers and Dorothy Scott Carruthers and his step-mother Winnifred Scott Carruthers. Survived and deeply missed by his children Jeffrey Calvert Carruthers (Anne Durnford), Clark Edward (Victoria Gonzalez) and Catherine Mitchell Weaver (Jonathan) and granddaughter Alexandra Carruthers. Jack was born and raised in Sarnia, went to Medical School at Western University in London and graduated with the Class of 1955. Dad practiced as a Pathologist at the Princess Margaret Hospital for most of his medical career. Jack enjoyed curling and was an active member of the Curling Section at the Granite Club, sailing and spending time at the cottage in Sarnia. Jack was a wonderful father and grandfather, always kind, loving, watchful and interested. Jack was a family man spending all his free hours, if not curling, with his family. Jack always wanted his family to enjoy travel and especially to appreciate Canada. As a family, we spent 6 weeks camping in a tent in Alberta and British Columbia, had many sailing trips around Lake Ontario and camping trips throughout Eastern Canada and the United States. In retirement, he and Mom travelled annually with walking trips in the UK, river cruises in Europe and historical tours of WWI and WWII locations in Europe. Dad's other hobby was Genealogy. He would focus much time and energy over the past 20 years researching and publishing a book on our family tree. Cremation has taken place. Dad's ashes will be interred in Lakeview Cemetery, Sarnia in the Fall of 2017. We are grateful for the excellent care received from the medical and nursing staff at Bluewater Health in Sarnia. Dr. Mark Bernstein and his team with the Sinai Health System, Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. We would especially like to thank Maria and Rebecca for assisting Dad and the rest of our family for the past several years. Most recently Lynn and Marisa for assisting Dad at the cottage this summer and while he was in the hospital and most recently at home.
