John TRAINOR Obituary

TRAINOR, John Stuart It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Stuart Trainor, on December 20, 2017 with his love Rita by his side. He fought a brave and short battle with lung cancer. He was 70 years old, born March 18, 1947.

He was born in Bangor, Ireland and at the age of 6 came with his parents John and Elizabeth to Toronto. Raised in the beach area, he attended Malvern Collegiate, before going to Tennesse Tech on a football scholarship. On returning to Toronto he played offensive end for the Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes. He later worked in the film industry in Los Angeles and Toronto. Well travelled, a ferocious reader and talented writer, he was great company and a true, loyal friend. He leaves behind brother Norman (Wendy), their children Ryan, Sloan, Shauna, his partner Rita and her daughters Lisa and Megan (Casey) and their children, Rachel, Rory, Eva and Conor. "May the road always rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, until we meet again."

I am said to hear of Johns passing. We played football together all through high school and one year with norm. I have told many a story to friends here in NB Can. about
John and his good fortunes and times when we would meet on Kingston Rd near Loblaws back in the good old days. John was a good leader to follow. Friend on the field and in years to come. God bless.

My sincere condolences to John's family. John was my offence line coach in 1978 at the University of Guelph. He was an intimidating guy at about 6' 2" and at least 235 lbs at the time. He was a tough coach but we had great respect for him. He could be a bit gruff but we all knew he had a kind heart underneath the gruff exterior. We learned a lot of practical lineman skills from John that season ( like the "Heart Punch" ) and heard lots of entertaining Argo stories as well. John endeared himself to his lineman prodigies by also running wind sprints along side us each night at end of practice. I would often run into him in the library while studying at Guelph as he was taking a few university courses while coaching that fall. Till we meet again John on the other side. Doug "Mac" McLean
