JOHN (JACK) MATHEW WATSON World War II Veteran, Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather January 22, 1924 - November 17, 2014 After a full and much loved life, Dad was sadly taken from us to be reunited with his loving wife of 49 years, Leonora Joyce Watson. For the last 16 years, Dad lived with his youngest son Randy, wife Karen, and his grandchildren Erin (Riccardo), Kyla (Bryon) and Brett in one big happy household. Dad will also be dearly missed by his eldest son Gary and grandson Logan. Dad will be forever remembered by his four grandchildren as their beloved "Poppa". Dad was a World War II Veteran with the Air Force as a Private from 1934 - 1936 and worked overseas as an engineer on fighter planes and other war aircraft, joining the Army from 1936 - 1937 in the rank of Sargent. Dad returned home to meet the love of his life and raised two beautiful sons, enjoying weekends at the cottage with Joyce on Long Island, Rice Lake. Dad worked for the Toronto Board of Education up to his retirement and devoted his years to the Royal Canadian Legion as Member and Officer. Jack enjoyed watching golf finals every Sunday, followed by a prime rib and Yorkshire pudding dinner and in recent years watching the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays and enjoying life with his dear companion Agnes Ward. At Dad's request, we will have a celebration of life in his honour with his dearest friends and family. In lieu of flowers, we ask kindly ask that donations be made in his name to Cancer Care at the Lakeridge Health Foundation. Our family extends very special thanks to Dr. Stephen and Marnie Stern for their loving care and support - it was above and beyond! Our family is also very appreciative of those who helped to keep Dad safe and comfortable - thank you to Nurse Nancy, the Central East CCAC and Personal Support Workers and also Veterans Affairs. A very heartfelt thank you to the team at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, including the nurses and doctors of the sixth floor and palliative care for their tender care, and to his very own "Special K" who was alongside him 'til the end. Arrangements entrusted to Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N., Whitby, 905-655-3662. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to
