JOHN WHYTE Obituary

MAJOR JOHN JOSEPH WHYTE Passed away peacefully at home with his wife Jeanne and daughter Alexandra on Friday, March 31, 2017. John was born on September 24, 1925 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He served as a Regular Officer with the Grenadier Guards. John served in World War II in Germany and after the war in conflict in Kenya and the Far East. He immigrated to Canada in 1958 and joined the Canadian Militia with the Queen's Own Rifles as a Major. John met Jeanne his wife of 54 years not long after arriving in Canada. John continued his career in security working with Hilton International hotel until he retired at 70 years of age. He was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. Jeanne, Alexandra and his Grandson Lyall will miss John dearly. Stephen, Russell and Paul Whyte survive him. Thank you to all our dear friends, some who have already passed on, who have been an important part of his and our lives. Cremation and a private family service has been held. I was sad to learn of Major Whytes passing. I have fond memories of Mr. John Whyte. I can tell you as far as work goes, and in my career he was the best boss and taught me many things. Condolences to the family.

I knew John at the Queen's Own Rifles. He was a charming and entertaining gentleman, and it was a great pleasure to know him well some years ago.
