John Wingrove Obituary

JOHN EDWARD WINGROVE Passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 15, 2009, on the tennis court at the Boulevard Club at the age of 51. Survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Melissa Jane Kennedy and their sons, Jonathan Clifford and Michael Edward. Predeceased by his first lovely wife, Nancey Wingrove. Cherished son of John Senior and Betty Wingrove of Brant County. Loving brother of Andrew, Karen and Jennifer, and brother-in-law Kevin. Proud Uncle of Stewart, Jacqueline, Steven and Jacob. Visitation at the Turner and Porter Funeral Home, 2357 Bloor Street West (Bloor West Village) on Wednesday March 18 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral will be held on Thursday March 19 at 1 p.m. at All Saints' Kingsway Anglican Church, 2850 Bloor Street West, corner of Bloor and Prince Edward Drive. A private interment will take place immediately thereafter and public reception will be held at the Boulevard Club located on Lakeshore Boulevard, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, friends have established the Jonathan and Michael Wingrove Education Fund at CIBC Main Branch, 199 Bay Street, Toronto in John's honour. John's love of life was matched only by his love for his family and friends. Although he left us too soon, he leaves us with inspiration to be true to ourselves and kind with all those we touch. His gentle, loving soul will always sustain us.

John, Betty, Melissa, Jonathon and Mike,

We have been in shock since John passed away! We are remembering 'Johnny' as a little boy playing with our son Frank, (his cousin), at Christian Island. They were so cute together! What saddness we felt when John lost Nancey, but what joy we felt when he found Melissa!

We will always remember!

Love to you all,

Doreen and Joe Avey

My sympathies to the Wingrove family. As an old friend I was shocked to hear of this tragic event. I have many great memories of John. Always active and always cheerful. He was a great and skilled hockey team mate. Whether on ice or the pavement we had a blast playing with John and Andy...also many great memories of time spent on christian island. Very sad.....

To all our dear family members who were closest to John, may you have strength during these difficult days. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I have many fond memories of "young John" from early days at Turkey Point, later at Christian Island, and then in Toronto when he so helpfully set up the electricity for the kiln in my first pottery studio. Always cheerful and generous. We all feel sad at the loss of such a good person.

Dearest Melissa, Mike, Jonathan, and the entire Wingrove family:

May this poem sustain you throughout the days ahead.

Thinking of you always, and wishing you the best of all worlds to come.

And far though we may roam
The tender bonds with those we love
Still pull our hearts toward home....

My deepest sympathies go to the entire Wingrove family. John was a very special person who touched the heart of everyone he met. I cherish the memories I have of him at the cottage. I remember John coming to our cottage for dinner one night and he arrived on his bike with one of Betty's pies in one hand and a big smile on his face. I always had so much fun with John, whether we were making saunas on the beach or trying to line dance, times with John were always special. I will cherish all of the wonderful times we had.

May you all find peace in the love and support of your family and friends. Please know that your grief is shared by many.
