JOSEPH BRINKOS Obituary

BRINKOS, JOSEPH STEPHEN It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph Brinkos, in his 82nd year, on Friday, July 22, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Jean (Muir) Brinkos. Brother of Mike (deceased) and his wife, Julie, Mary Molokach and John (deceased). Father to Diana and Peter. Dzedo of Tate and Evan Dallimore. He was an appreciated stepdad to Kathleen Sommerville (David), Robert Abbott (Jeanine); and a wonderful grandpa to Jamie, Matthew and Jessica. He leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews in Bradford, Barrie, Niagara and Slovakia. Joe was a caring, creative and generous friend. He lived life to the fullest and had many interests. He loved learning and studied at University of Western, Osgoode Hall and passed the bar to work in corporate law. Later, he changed careers to work for the City of Toronto Hostel Services, supervising staff and designing programs in Seaton House, Greenfield Centre, Robertson House and Metro Hall. He is credited for establishing a policy called "continuum of care" from intake to placement in the community with housing and employment. He assisted many refugee claimant families. Joe loved his golf, planning hostel tournaments and hosting events in Toronto and New Port Richey, Florida. He golfed until he could no longer keep score, enjoying the great outdoors and the 19th hole thanks to the kindness of his friend, Ian Campbell. Many thanks to the exceptional caregivers and staff at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home. Mr. Brinkos is resting at Rushnell Funeral Home - Picton Chapel, 33 Main St. (613-476-2450). Funeral service and Reception will be held on August 2nd, 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 31 King St, Picton, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joe's name to H.J. McFarland to be directed to the care teams or the Alzheimer's Society P.E.C.
