To Mrs. Toby Tanenbaum,

My most heartfelt condolences to you and your whole family. It has been 42 years since I was with you guys last. I lived with you for 2 years and left in August of 1980. Living with your family is something I will always cherish. Your kindness, generosity, and loving ways are something I will never forget. You are always in my heart everywhere I go. You taught me how to be strong, understanding, and how to succeed in life.

I will never forget the time I was coughing blood one evening, and you and Mr. Joey Tanenbaum ran me to Mt. Sinai hospital. Your family really took care of me at a young age, living in a foreign country with no family around. I really appreciate you guys for that. I'm 67 years old now, retired from the United States postal service. I have 2 boys and 3 beautiful grandkids. I am currently living by myself and learned to be strong on my own. I remember you speaking with your sister and always advising her to be strong and positive to make it in life, and it has always stuck with me.

In 2015, I went to visit my brother who lived in Toronto at the time. I wanted to visit you both, but I did not know where you are now located. I remember the address at Forest Avenue, but it looks like you are no longer there. During my trip my brother showed me a star magazine, and I stumbled upon a picture of you and Mr. Joey Tanenbaum. You both looked amazing! I then remembered how much I admired you and your family, and how inspiring you guys are for lots of people.

I've added your family picture and another photo with Alan and I in my post. I have treasured it all these years. Condolences again, you'll always be in my heart and prayers. If you ever have time to write me back, I would love to hear from you. -Sincerly Susan

Deepest sympathies and condolences to you Mrs Tanenbaum, Michael, Allan, Marty, Susan and Robbie! May your husband´s Soul Rest In Peace! I worked for you and your sister Mrs Roher in the late 1979-early1980s. Susana Nava was my best friend who worked for you full time during this time as well. Susana have 2 boys and 3 grandchildren. I on the other hand have 2 boys too and expecting my first grand baby this July. We all live in Seattle Washington. You and your children have always treated us decently, kindly and respectfully and we´ll never forget! We are truly sorry for your loss! Great big hugs to you all!

Feelings of sadness were trumped today by those of gratitude for the friendship of Joey and Toby, for their cosmopolitan values, and for their generosity, personal and public. Toby will carry that spirit on.

Joey was also a lot of fun, especially at our extended lunches. Well, it is lunchtime now, and I am going to have martini with thoughts of Joey (don't tell Toby about the martinis...). Then off to the ROM to bathe in the gifts of their art.
