JUNE PETERS Obituary

JUNE ELIZABETH PETERS (nee HAMILTON) 1925 - 2013 After a long and eventful life, June passed away in Toronto on January 9, 2013. She was the cherished wife of Pete Peters. She will be greatly missed by her four children, Susan (Al), Ruth, Beth (Matthew) and Tim (Liz). Gramma June was the proud grandmother and great- grandmother of Julie (Darryl), Pete (Laura), Krystyna, Mike (Lorena), Brett, Colette, Ian, Emily, James, Mack, Kevin, David, Anna, Kate and Jill. She will be sorely missed by her brother Fred (Joan). She will be remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Ruth Hamilton, her brother Chuck and his wife Patty. June was born and raised in Toronto, where she graduated from the University of Toronto in Occupational Therapy. June and Pete started their married life in Matheson, Ontario. They returned to Toronto, where they spent most of their early years raising four children and spending time at their cottage. As an active member of the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club, June lead the "Sewing Ladies" in the creation of hundreds of costumes for the skating carnivals. She moved from the skating rink to the curling rink, where she added another sport to her list of many, which she enjoyed over the years. From there she went to the lawn bowling greens. She ultimately served as the Chairperson of the Lawn Bowling Section. In her later years, she could be found dealing cards at the bridge table. She was the consummate sports fan throughout her life. She loved baseball, football, hockey, figure skating, golf and the Olympic Games. In spite of her difficulty with her vision in recent years, her enthusiasm and love of sports never wavered. Like her beloved Pete, June embodied and passed on to all her children the best qualities of her generation - a sense of duty, humility and quiet toughness in the face of all life's challenges. She will be remembered by all her knew her, both young and old, for her tremendous sense of humour, sharp wit, sense of fun and love of adventure. She will be greatly missed. There will be a celebration of June's life in the spring. The family requests that any pictures, anecdotes, or memories of June be sent to [email protected] or call 519-927-9525.

Tim, Beth, Susan and Ruth.....I am so sorry about your loss. Your mother was such a wonderful lady and I consider myself very lucky to have been included in her circle of friends. June's sense of humor and love of life was truly inspirational. Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren and she had many stories about the times you all shared...most of them involved a lot of laughter. June had a very special way of looking at life. She saw the good in people and was so kind to me over the years. I cherish the memories of traveling with her to skating competitions, joining our family in celebrations or just talking to her one-on-one. She was truly a great lady and I hold a special place in my heart for her. Thank you for sharing your Mom with me over the years.
