Rod and I were both scientists just out of grad school and joined the balsam woolly aphid project with the Canadian Forestry Service. We had many a good time sharing ideas and research and he made a real contribution to the effects of fertilization on the aphid population. He was a friend and will be missed.

I very much appreciated Rod's logic and wisdom during the time we worked together managing the estate of Allan Coote (my uncle and Rod's cousin). I wish I'd got to know Rod better.

I learned a great deal working with Rod on the Town of Mono's forestry committee...his infinite patience in teaching how to plant a tree so that it will survive during our annual tree sale will stay with me forever...sincere condolences to his family.

Thanks to a friend, we have been made aware of Rod's passing and so to his two sons we would like to say, Pat and Rod were wonderful neighbours of ours, as one of you may remember from your time spent here across the road from the Farmer's Walk in the Hockley Valley area of Ontario. We are sorry to learn of Rod's death. Always enthusiastic and cheerful with that wonderful smile, Rod was one of the nicest and most thoughtful gentlemen I've ever met. And, Rod and Pat heated their home with wood, not surprising for the then Dean of Forestry at U of T. Shortly after moving into our country home Rod approached my husband, Jock and asked: "Do you like to cut wood?" Jock replied in the affirmative. And so, twenty-eight years later, we are still ordering two long pup-trailer loads of logs from Rod's woodsman in Huntsville, Ontario and still cutting our own wood to heat our home in the wintertime. Rod has left a lasting impact on our lives...another load of logs arrived last week for next winter's wood. Rest in peace, Rod. You've lived a remarkable life. It was a privilege to have known you and been a neighbour to you and Pat during your time spend in Dufferin County.

His colleagues knew Rod as a thoughtful and committed forester. I also knew him as a great guy. Yet, it was not until I read his obituary did I realize what a truly great guy he actually was! All my condolences to the family and friends. A great loss.

Saddened to learn of Dr. Carrow's passing. As a former U of T Forestry student I had a lot of respect for this man. Always took the time to speak to students, even when involved with other dignitaries. A great loss to the forestry community but he certainly left a rich legacy for us to follow.

Rod was a passionate and eloquent spokesman for forestry and he will be greatly missed. I considered Rod and Pat as dear friends and will cherish Pat's painting that hangs in our family room.

How very sad we are to learn of your loss, Geoff and Mike, but how very fortunate you are to have had such a wise, kind and loving father. Rod was a wonderful man whose friendship we valued and enjoyed from the time he and Pat moved to Mono. We think of him fondly and will miss him greatly. Our best wishes to you and your families.
