KAREN EDELIST Obituary

EDELIST, KAREN LYNN Karen Lynn Edelist peacefully passed away Saturday, August 6, surrounded by loved ones. Karen was predeceased by her mother, Betty Faye; her sister, Lisa Jean; and uncles, Dale and Wayne. She will be lovingly remembered by her father, Dr. Gerald Edelist; her sister, Laurie and brother-in-law, Mike; six nieces and nephews, Nicki (Andrew), Jamie (Genevieve, Addie and Beau), Carly, Shayna, Camryn and Griffin; aunts, Val (Jim) and Sheila; uncle, Bob (Chris); along with many cousins and friends. Born in New York, Karen traveled around this world with a compassion for people unlike most others. She was an outspoken voice on issues she was passionate about, yet perpetually understated in her opinions of her own talents. Karen was a staunch believer that everyone is worthy of time and love, and she gave that consistently to those around her in spades. Even in times when she didn't have much to give, she was still giving. This unrelenting empathy and unwaveringly selfless nature is one of the many reasons she was such a well-respected nurse, and is why her many friends and loving family will remember her as someone who devoted her heart to those in need. Karen, the light you brought to this world will help brighten the darkness of your passing and you will continue to shine in our hearts for all the years you're not around for. In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting you donate to a Charity of Your Choice. A Celebration of Life will be planned in the weeks to come. Her family will share information to those interested when confirmed.

Karen, my beautiful, intelligent, funny sister-in-law of almost 40 years. This wave of grief relentless, merciless, and endless has hit us hard. I'm devastated, hurt, and shattered not only for you but for your amazing sister Laurie and your Dad. Please understand your are my friend and I just want to thank you for everything you have done for the family for many many years. You are the most giving person I have ever had the pleasure to know and you never expected anything in return. On behalf of everyone that ever met you, thank you! Love Mike

My deepest condolences to you Mr Edelist, Laurie and Karen's friends and family. So many fun memories of time spent at the Edelist household when we were young. Dancing with Karen to Burton Cummings and then likely annoying her as her younger sisters friend the next minute. Mrs. Edelist was.always a great sounding board. Two wonderful people who are missed. Sending much love in your healing process.

My heartfelt condolences to Dr. Edelist, Laurie and the rest of Karen's family. Karen was truly a force of nature and I am so grateful to have had her in my life. Karen and I were best friends from junior high right through to the end of high school. We went to school together; we played together; and, we even worked the same part time job together. She was patient with me when I didn't understand the math problem that came so easily to her, or when I had to ski the long slow way down the slope as she raced the black diamond runs. Karen led the way for our many adventures in her trusty blue Gremlin. I was indeed fortunate to have Karen as my friend and she will always have a place in my heart.

Auntie Karen I am so sad that you are gone. You were truly one of a kind. The last time I visited you a couple of months ago you spent the entire day with Addie and that filled my heart. She immediately took to you and did not leave your side the entire time we were there. Your caring nature made you an easy person to be drawn to. I will always remember going to your apartment as a kid and thinking that you were the coolest person ever because you lived in the big city of Toronto right beside the sky dome. You are missed by many. I hope you always knew how much you were loved.

My deepest condolences to her family and friends. Karen was one of the nicest women I've had the chance of getting to know. She was always so kind and generous.
She had one of the biggest hearts and although I didn't have the opportunity to know her nearly as long as anyone else, I feel blessed to have the memories that I do. May you be forever at peace Karen
