KARL EICHNER Obituary

EICHNER, KARL WILLIAM JOSEPH After 71 years of boundless energy and glowing good health, Karl passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, on Saturday, July 9, 2022, in the loving arms of his wife and soulmate, Janice (Denike), due to complications of a bacterial infection. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Angela (Coid) and George McWhirter of Vancouver, BC; first cousins, Grania Beichner, Karlridal, Liam McWhirter, Wanda Grzegorczyk and Mark Grzegorczyk; and nephews, Rob and Jeff Denike; as well as a large family of beloved friends he built and nurtured, here and abroad, over decades. Born in Bangor, Northern Ireland and raised in London, England, Karl served a three-year commission in the British Army before immigrating to Canada, graduating from Carleton University in Ottawa and embarking on a long career in public and media relations as communications advisor to Canadian Government cabinet ministers. He later moved to Toronto to join Canada News-Wire and after a subsequent few years at Grant and DeNike Advertising, launched Karl Eichner & Associates Communications, specializing in trade and consumer shows. Karl was a fun-loving optimist, keen student of history and avid traveler whose fondest hope was that he and Janice could make up for time lost to the pandemic with many more adventures, including frequent trips "home" to Ireland and England where his roots and friendships were deep. He embraced country living at the home he and Janice built on the water in Trent Hills, Ontario and at their cottage in Ashford Hollow, New York and was happiest when he had a long list of outdoor chores. His loss is devastating for loved ones but he leaves a legacy of love and positive energy that will be ours forever. A Celebration of Life will take place in the future, but for now, please raise a glass of good whisky to a beloved husband, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend. If you're so inclined, a donation in his memory to Campbellford Memorial Hospital or an animal Charity of Your Choice would be greatly appreciated. I knew Karl as a young cheerful boy at a London school over 60 years ago!!! I had no idea what happened to him until I read of his untimely death, sadly only recently. The recent photos of him show the same cheerful and cheeky face!! I´m so glad he had a full, successful and happy life in Canada. Well done Karl!!! Best wishes to the family. John R F Hodges (72)

When we didn´t receive Karl´s always early Christmas newsletter, we commented that perhaps you were travelling. Shocked and saddened to investigate further today and find the obituary. Karl was always so upbeat, energetic and loved his travels with Janice. Although our paths diverged since university days, we enjoyed the annual update and occasional emails such as chats about our 2019 Ireland trip. We send our deepest condolences to you Janice.

When Janice´s e-mail arrived announcing Karl´s passing, we were devastated having just the previous week had a FaceTime conversation.I first met Karl at Lisgar Collegiate in Ottawa in 1968 and later on we walked along the underground tunnels at Carleton University.Karl was a friend for over 50 years. His mischiefs, pranks and cheerful smile represented hope and optimism.
Often the joker as we shared e-mails and stories almost on a weekly, if not a daily basis. His high spirits, joviality and good nature were always a tonic. His whimsical humour kept us going. We shared holidays together in Northern Ireland,Malvern Hills and visited Castles here in West Wales. We also stayed with him at Trent river. His detailed Christmas newsletter was always the first to arrive, just to remind us that Christmas was around the corner. He will be sadly missed by myself and my wife and our deepest condolences go to Janice in these difficult times. We share her profound grief and great loss.

I will always remember Karl as a close friend during our high school and university years. Although our paths parted as we went on with our separate lives - he still holds a special place in my memories - the years have never erased that. My deep condolences to you and your family.
