KAY KORNIJENKO Obituary

KORNIJENKO, KAY It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kay (Kateryna) Kornijenko, on April 14, 2022, at the age of 94. Predeceased by her husband, John, sister, Maria Romaniw, and grandson, Matthew. She leaves behind her daughters, Marta (Walter) and Lily (Steve). She was a loving grandmother to her granddaughter, Anne, and beloved aunt of Walter (Zina). Kay was born in 1927, in Konotop, Ukraine. As a young woman, she came to Canada on her own after WWII. While a displaced person in Austria, she trained as a dressmaker. She started work as a seamstress the day after she arrived in Toronto. She was exceptionally talented and loved to sew for her family. Kay and John were long-time members of St. Volodymyr Cathedral in Toronto. It was the core of their spiritual, cultural and family life. They supported the Ukrainian community through involvement in various groups and events centred around the Church. A private family funeral and burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to: St. Volodymyr Cathedral Toronto www.stvolodymyr.ca Ivan Franko Homes, Mississauga www.ivanfrankohomes.com Canada-Ukraine Foundation www.cufoundation.ca
