Kenneth Paterson Obituary

Kenneth (Ken) Halliday PATERSON

Suddenly, untimely, and mercifully at their home in the loving arms of his princess bride of 27 years Marilyn in the early morning hours on Thursday, December 31st, 2015, at the age of 68. He was taken from us by an upper GI hemorrhage. Death has left a heartache no one can heal. His love has left a memory no one can steal. Ken was the quiet, steady light in our lives. Born in Fergus, Ken was the adored second son of Matt and Mazie (nee Beattie) who have both predeceased him. Ken will be sadly and deeply missed by his beloved brothers Sandy, Doug, and Dave (Carmine) and his other "brothers" Kevin and Gordie; his sister-in–law Nancy Snell (Geoff) and his mother-in-law Jean Wilson. Ken was the proud uncle of Mark Paterson (Cheryl), Greg Snell (Amanda), Matthew and Kate Paterson. A man's man, sports nut, free spirit and dearest friend to so many who loved him. It is with great sadness Ken has left behind a multitude of family and friends who have also cherished his kindness, sense of humour, sense of duty, thoughtful ways and special personality. Rob and his father Ben, Robbie and his Islington Golf Course family are only a few. Marilyn would like to thank the people who responded to her 911 call for their professional and compassionate care of her darling Ken, the police from 22 division for their kindness and support, and Dr. Carlisle for his patient understanding and reassurance. Friends may call at Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Islington and Kipling Aves.) on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at 11 o'clock. If desired, Ken would like donations to be made to either Cystic Fibrosis Canada for his great nephew Rowan, or hopeforthomas.org fundraising for his buddy's son Thomas with Cerebral Palsy. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca

To Ken's Family -- I am a member at Islington Golf Course and will always fondly remember Ken. Always with a big smile, a "good morning" greeting and even encouraging words after witnessing a horrible golf shot! He was a warm and lovely man that will be missed. My sincere condolences to you.

I have just returned from Christmas in Kelowna with our girls and grand children, opened my mail and found a note from Dave Scobie telling me Ken had passed away. I carry a very fond memory of Ken and I downtown at Maple Leaf Gardens attending the first Telegram Indoor Track and Field meet. No more than a month ago I found some old pictures of Ken and I in front of my home on Inverdon and made a mental note to be in touch in the new year. I am sad to know this moment now will not come to pass.
My warmest thoughts are sent to his family.

Dear Marilyn,

I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your wonderful husband Ken. I have no words. I remember Ken always so cheery and friendly at our apartment building at 70 Dixfield Dr. We talked about how my sister was one of the caregivers of his mother at the seniors home where she was living before she passed away. Usually I would see Ken picking you up and taking you to work or somewhere else. My love and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. Your friend with much love, Cindy. 70 Dixfield Dr. #1210.

Kenny was a young buddy growing up near Briarcrest. Ken was a talented hockey player and very useful second baseman. Ken always had a great sense of humour and always found it easy to laugh. Later , in our 20's, ken was a room mate with Ron brown and myself, when we moved out on our own. More laughs trying to make ends meet and pay the rent. Always smiling, never angry, a great guy. My prayers Marilyn. Dennys van fleet
