Although I knew him for a little bit more than one year, I could tell that Lance was a kind and open-minded person. I really appreciated his passion for music that I think we had in common.

I met Lance was I was about to create Virgin Mobile Canada. We successfully launched, and I sold, my interst in that company. I am now, 5 years later, a senior officer at DuPont Canada, where I'm responsible for a number of significant functions for the company.
When I first met Lance, I was struck by his ability to embrace the difference between what he was involved in, and what I was doing. He seemed to cover that gap seamlessly. He was in a word, a "connector". No matter what the significance of the apparent apparent gap, he could close it.
I immediately recognized him as a superior "bridger" and I was struck, hugely affected by him, for that.
Lance was, and is, in my view one of those unique spirits in the universe, that can cover ethnic, cultural, socio-ecomominc divides, all for the better of this great country we call Canada.
I so profoundly wish there were more spirits like him.

I have known him from our humble and early formative years in Arlene Gardens, Kingston, Jamaica at our adopted Mother's (Ms Dunny)home.

I first met Lance in calgary when i was managing Messenjah on tour , he expressed his desire to promote shows.I i didnt realise at the time hed become the most prolific promoter for black music in Toronto , i had the most utmost respect for Lance and always looked forward to dealing with him weather it be Third World or Messenjah , , there is a void so deep professionally and personally that may never be filled . i know personally i will miss him.

Uncle Lance was amazing, he was so positive about everything. I can remember the first time I went to Canada with my sister Barbara and he arranged for our cousin Clive to come over from NY to spend time with us. This memory is still so vivid in my mind and it must be over 20yrs ago. We had a ball, going out and having fun. When I think of Lance I can only think of happy times.

I can't begin to imagine that you, his children and families are going through.
As you know, I met Lance when I was articling at the law firm that represented Milestone's first bid to get the first black radio station in Canada. What I loved about Lance was how he challenged my intellect. I remember going home and reading up on topics to prepare me for my next day's "debate with Lance".
I knew at when I met him that the two of you would be perfect for each other. Naturally, Norm and I organized the party for the two of you to meet. I, of course, never made it to the party, but the day after did receive a phone call from Lance who tried his best to describe the sensation of dancing with you. I had never known Lance to be at a loss for words, but that day he way. He gave up trying and told me - simply - that "he had met his queen."
Lance was a "make things happen" type of guy. I still smile when I remember how you and he managed to talk your way into the parade grand stand on the day of Obama's inauguration when the rest of us lined up months before the day, only to be told that the tickets were sold out.
I know the next while will be very hard because its difficult to accept that he's gone. My prayer for you and his family is that you will find comfort in his memory and the knowledge that he made more of an impact in his short time that most of us can dream about doing in a life time.

Lance was my great friend for 36 years. In that time, I saw him live his life to the fullest. We took pride in raising our families, knowing that our children will be happy, healthy and successful.
Like everyone who knew him, you learned something from him and he was equally interested in you and what you were thinking. There was always a meaningful exchange of ideas. All of this against a background of love, music, food, kindness, culture, travel, business, joy and laughter. Lance was a man for our times.
I miss Lance very much, I am glad that I have his family and friends, so that we can go forward together and cherish his memory.

To Ingleton family, I'm so sorry for your loss. There are only a handful of people who come into our world, and touch our life in a dramatic fashion. Some of the people are just flickers of light during a long life, while others are consistent glows for years. For me, Lance was my consistent glow and inspiration every time i looked after him during his treatments.

I first met Lance when he brought
Third World to the Copa in the 80's. My brother is the bass player for Third World and Lance instantly became a friend to me and my brothers. He is such a positive individual and he will be greatly missed.

Dear Denise, I "still" cannot believe that this incredible father, husband and friend slipped away so quickly, so quietly and so gracefully. My sincere condolences to his family, what a shock it was to learn of Lances’ passing. He must have suffered so much, quietly and with dignity. He was by far one of the most distinguished gentlemen that I’ve ever met. My condolences go out to you, Denise and to the rest of Lance’s family. Lance was a visionary and a lovely person. He treated me like a little sister and I know how much he loved and admired you all from the conversations I recall with him. Even though we hadn’t spoken a lot in the past few years, I know that he remained the Lance I first met when I was working as a DJ at The Diamond Club in Toronto. From our first meeting, I remember Lance as an insightful man with boundless joyous enthusiasm and positive outlook. He was developing his interest in promotions and would often bring artists down to ckln radio’s studios for me to interview. A few years after our first meeting, he invited me to work as publicist on various events promoting groups such as Third World, Burning Spear, Beres Hammond, Dennis Brown, Gil Scot-Heron, and many many others. He always had a warm smile and would look on any trouble, no matter how tough times might be, as an opportunity for positive change. When he asked me to help stage manage for the celebration of Nelson Mandela’s first visit to Toronto, I was shy about getting involved but he cajoled me into it in his usual ‘no is not an option, and of course you are the one who should do this’ style, hehe. Thank you Lance for sharing your grace with the world and teaching us all so much. I miss you tons, but I cannot help but remember you with a warm smile!

My memories of Lance are newer ones of high regard,good brainstorming and interesting lunch conversations. Lance the multi-faceted conosuir of all things musical,architectural and political. A true visionary and perfect example of how musical promotions should be handled and executed. Lance a friend to all, he had the uncanny ability to make you feel you knew him for years and that you and your opinions were valued. Lance the opportunity maker, he was always suggesting ways I could branch out, explore new avenues or interesting industry people he knew I "must" meet. Truly a deep viod has been left in the entertainment world, but an even more poignant void in the wider human landscape. Good people are rear gems and Lance was among the rearest! My heartfelt condolences and love go out to all Lance's family members, he was truly happy to share his life with you and now we have you- his "legacy" to remind us of him.

I was shocked when I got the news of your passing! Sorry I was unable to attend the funeral but want to send condolences to the family. I first met Lance in 1989 when he promoted two reggae concerts with Denis Brown, Freddy McGregor and Stitchie during the Caribana celebrations. Became closer friends when I lived in Toronto. Lance was a hardworking, dedicated promoter but an even better human who gave his all everytime. After loosing contact with him for a few years had the opportunity to link with him in 2008 when I visted Toronto for Caribana. Glad I had the opportunity to exchange a few words with him then. My association with Lance goes back to the dawn of LIP.
He called on me to help him promote his events.
It was always a pleasure to hear from him.
Along the way I developed not only a deep appreciation for the music he loved but also a deeper appreciation for him.
I was shocked and saddened to receive the news of his passing. I had looked forward to having him in my life for a lot longer than I was privileged to.

Lance was a true brother and a "go-getter." I vividly remember our many conversations with Gashugi on Pan-African issues. He was passionate, inspirational, kind and very helpful.

Just wanted to add some respect here. Back in the day when I covered music for the Toronto Star, a call from Lance was always good news -- what a thoughtful, decent guy, brimming with integrity, energy, passion and very patient with me as I came to learn and love the sounds he brought to the city. Although we came across one another only sporadically (since my days as a dj 30 years ago), he was always of an empathetic, positive and encouraging spirit. Lance was consistent in character no matter where (and what) place I was... positive... or negative... and this is not forgotten.

Like all, we are deeply saddended by the passing of Lance. Lance was a consumate professional and a gentleman who was fair and did business with a smile. Lance gave many in the Toronto reggae music business their first chance to display and promote their art. To Denise and Tareke atleast the members of his familly i was privelaged to know all of these years my condolence goes to the rest of the family. I have no word to express what i"m going though now, as we struggle as African people it be comes very hard to move on when we get robbed those we need the most, Brother Lance and i goes back way with the struggle against apathied in South Africa, later on we worked on a project after the Genocide in Rwanda which was very sucessful with the help of Brother Eddy of the Real Jark. He was always on the move when it become to the issue of Africa people, He was a big part of All African Student Conference on North America 1994 in Guelph and off course on the fight to get the First Black Radio Station in Canada. I can go on but that will not change the course. Brother Lance, i promise to be were your needed to be as long a i lleave i will do my best to fill the gap. I'm very aware that you believed that they more work to be done with the course you belived in, i also know that witnessing Obama's Presidency was a good farewell to your life . I could go on but again still things will not be the same without you around. Hoptep Bro, we will miss you but sametime you will be in good hands, the Angels of African world are waiting to walcome you. To the family of Lance Ingleton:
I opened the Toronto Star and saw the notice of Lance's passing,and tears came quickly.Please know that we share your pain, but he left a legacy of wisdom and was the greatest entrepreneur, especially in the world of Toronto entertainment. His company, LIP has never been replaced.
I knew Lance, years ago when I was Editor of CONTRAST newspaper, and while I dealt with the editorial part of his promotions,I admired his insistence on excellence in his art, when he designed his ads.
Later, when I opened my own newspaper, DAWN, and we met at a Toronto function, he showed me around the venue, introducing me to many contacts,so I could get advertising.
Lance made an indelible mark on Canada, and was a great tribute to his home country, Jamaica.
More than anything, Lance and his love belonged to you, his wife, children, and the rest of his family.
His work was well done and I am sure he will rest in peace, or maybe he will be planning some exciting venture up there.
