Larry Klassen Obituary

Larry "Jasper" KLASSEN

July 18, 1953 - December 8, 2016

It is with deeply saddened hearts, that after a lengthy illness, we announce the passing of Larry on Thursday, December 8, 2016, peacefully at the age of 63. Beloved son of Gail (Woodstock) and the late Leslie Klassen. Deeply loved by his brother Randy of Sault Ste. Marie (Darlene), sisters Marlene of Winnipeg (Bob), Pauline of Oil Springs (Claxton), and Cathy of CT (Brian). He will be greatly missed by nephews Jeff, James, Trevor, Jason and nieces Amanda (Brian), Johanna (Luc), Jenn (Chad), many family and friends. Larry enjoyed being outdoors and on the lake fishing. In addition to his technical/computer skills, Jasper was a multi-talented musician and song writer. Larry will be cremated and at his request there will be no visitation or funeral service held. There will be a celebration of life at a later date in Toronto.

I loved listening to and photographing the Wives. From an artistic perspective "Jasper" looked like a Greek sculpture back in the day, which is what I saw through my camera lens even before I knew of his band. His music was considerably less god-like at that time...and I loved it, so passionate and provocative! A letter I wrote him helped inspire a song he wrote "Ready or Not." In any case, I had the opportunity to know him for a while and I was shocked and saddened to learn of his passing, still so relatively young. Had I known earlier in life that he loved fishing, I would have enjoyed going on a trip with him!
I'm sorry you're not here but glad you are no longer in pain or discomfort.
With love and remembrance.

Larry...or Jasper as I knew him gave me my first experience in the recording studio playing drums on his wonderful songs. Such a passionate writer, player and singer, his energy infectious. He had gone to Nashville for some time but when he came back we reconnected and he was helpful to me through some of my hard times. We did some more gigs and recording. I've been listening to a lot of his music that we made together and am happy to have that as a comforting reminder of my good friend.

Holding on to memories of camping, especially Larry catching that Lake trout on our lake, the many concerts with his bands and just helping me out when I needed a big brother. I will carry on what you've taught me and make you as proud of me as I was of you! Love from Pauline
