IN 2004, I was working for Goldsmith Borgal & Co. Architects, as the project architect on the renovation of the Whitby Station Gallery. Laurie and his crew moved the gallery to its current site. It was a cold day in early November, sleet coming down, freezing everyone except Laurie, who seemed impervious to the weather. He made an impression, striding around the site with his shock of white hair and a white stetson hard-hat, barking orders and completely in control of a complex process. I woke up this morning thinking about that day, and looked him up on Google, only to find that he had passed on, and that the funeral had been yesterday. I don't know what that coincidence means, but I thought it worth saying to his family that I admired his combination of showmanship and competence. My sincere condolences.

Elspeth, my thoughts and prayers are with you right now. I know you loved him so much, he was such a wonderful Brother in Law and Uncle to my girls. I'm so glad that I ran into you at the Hospital and was able to come see Laurie for a wee visit. See you on Saturday XO

only knew Laurie for a short time but became friends with him at the re-hab class .He was an inspiration to me and I am very sorry to have lost seeing him.
