Lawrence BOUNDY Obituary

BOUNDY, PENG, Lawrence Grant 1933 - 2021 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of L. Grant Boundy, on May 7th, at age 87. Grant was born in Summerside P.E.I. and raised in Barker's Point and Fredericton, NB, growing up on the banks of the St. John River. He met Margaret Murray when he was attending the University of New Brunswick (UNB). They married in 1953. Soon after Grant's graduation, they moved to Ontario where they raised their family in Barrie and Scarborough Toronto. During those years, they maintained strong roots with family in the Maritimes. Grant graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from UNB in 1955. As a Professional Engineer (licensed April 1957) he worked for GE ('55-'61) in Toronto and Barrie, IBM Canada ('61-'81) in Don Mills, and Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO '81-'95). He volunteered at PEO in various roles from 1964-2018 including, but not limited to, all aspects of administering and educating applicants for the Professional Practices Exam. Grant was always soft spoken and mild-mannered, never boastful or showy. He wore his iron ring quietly, with great pride. Brother Grant Boundy will be remembered by the Brethren of Kempenfelt Lodge 673 Barrie and Seven Star Lodge 285 Alliston. In 2017, he was the recipient of the William Mercer Wilson Meritorious Service Award. An active member of the United Church of Canada, Grant fulfilled many roles, including Sunday School Superintendent, chairperson of Don Mills Presbytery, and General Council Commissioner (1995). Wherever he and Marg lived over the years (Barrie, Scarborough, Bancroft, Alliston) they were always deeply involved in life and work of the United Church's community of faith. Between 1982 and 2002, Marg and Grant maintained a cottage on Dickey Lake in the Township of Marmora and Lake. Waterskiing when it was calm, windsurfing when it was windy, there was always lots of family bonding time and fond memories of activities at the lake. There, Grant affectionately earned the name "Buppa" from his first grandson's attempted pronunciation of "Grampa". He became "Bupp" for everyone thereafter. In 2002, Marg and Bupp moved to Alliston, which was the geographic centre of their greater family's universe. Their activities in retirement revolved around travelling in the southern US, their church community (St. John's United), condo committees, and the PROBUS Club of Alliston. Grant also kept in touch with many friends from GE, IBM, and PEO. Grant is remembered by his wife Margaret (nee Murray), his children, Melody King (Larry), Graham (Penny), and Alison Gassi (Vince Sr); his grandchildren, Darryl King (Cinda), Darcy King (Tara), Daniela Gassi, Vince Gassi Jr. (Shira), Scott Boundy (Alexa), Jacob Boundy; his great-grandchildren, Clarke, Quinn, Avyen, Spencer, Caryss, Evelyn, and Bianca; and his sister Helen Bird. All have many fond memories made at the cottage, annual holiday gatherings, and birthdays at the beach in July with Buppa. A memorial service will be arranged at St. John's United Church in Alliston when COVID restrictions are lifted. For details, please go to Drury's Funeral Centre (www.druryfuneralcentre.com). Memorial contributions to Heart and Stroke Foundation (heartandstroke.ca) or Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education (engineersfoundation.ca) or St. John's United Church, Alliston (stjohnsalliston.ca) will be gratefully received.
