LEWIS SCHAFFER Obituary

LEWIS EDWARD SCHAFFER Born in Timmins, Ontario. It is with great sadness that the family of Lew Schaffer announces his death on February 4, 2015. After many treatments designed to cure his "frozen shoulder" we were shocked to learn that he was battling cancer. A born leader and outstanding PR man, Lew enjoyed a rich life filled with marvellous adventures hunting moose, deer and other wild game, while he followed careers in broadcasting at CKGB Timmins and CKSO Sudbury; in police work in Garson and Sudbury; as a Human Resources and Compensation Specialist for several companies: INCO (Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Guatemala, Toronto and New York), ABITIBI-PRICE (in four provinces) and then as President of his own consulting firm MILLENNIUM III ENTERPRISES, through which he continued human resource consulting in the mining, forestry, aerospace, manufacturing, building supplies distribution, as well as food retailing sectors. One of his greatest challenges was serving for four years as a Director on the Board of a 30 million dollar food buying group. We are proud to say that Lew gained the respect of his professional colleagues in all spheres of endeavour. What he gave to our family was his wisdom, his strength and his love for us all, which we will honour and never, never forget. Lew is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Rev. Marion Schaffer (nee Halfyard) who was born in Iroquois Falls, Ontario and three sons: Jason (wife Sarah and children Amelia and Alexandra), Warren (wife Kerry and children Ian and Taya) and Adam (wife Dianne and their son Reid). A Memorial Service, with reception to follow, will be held at 1 p.m. on May 23rd at Knox Presbyterian Church, Main Street in Milton, Ontario.

Although I only knew Lew for a few years, I was most impressed by his love and devotion to you, Marion, and the children, his culinary talents and his generous willingness to help those with fewer culinary talents. Love, Joanna

We were saddened to hear of Lew's passing, and will miss the twinkle in his eye that sparkled as he related the numerous anecdotes that dwelled within him. A special fellow, indeed!
A beautiful obituary, Marion.
Our thoughts are with you.

We were shocked to hear of Lew's sudden passing in February.
He was a super guy with many talents and a tremendous knack for telling interesting anecdotes, jokes and stories. We really enjoyed his company and superb cooking skills at our beautiful and pristine lake. We will always remember his saying when he was offered a drink "Is the Pope catholic" or "you got that right". Lew had a fantastic sense of humor and always lightening up the party with his outgoing personality.
He will be sorely missed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you Marion.
