LINDA MACLENNAN Obituary

LINDA CAROL MACLENNAN, BA, MA Passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Beloved wife for 48 years of Dr. David MacLennan and mother of Jessica Lynn (deceased), Jeremy and Jonathan. Beloved sister of Pat Mazoudier and aunt of Pat's daughters Alison and Debora and their daughters. Linda was born on January 21, 1941 in Georgetown VA, the daughter of Natalie and Lawrence C. Vass, a career diplomat. She started school in London UK, attended high school in Bonn, Germany, enrolled in the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg VA, and completed her BA in German literature at the University of Sydney, Australia. She taught high school German and English in Richmond VA before moving to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, to obtain an MA in German literature. On graduation on June 5, 1965, she met David MacLennan and married him on August 18, 1965. In December 1968, she and David moved to Toronto. Linda was beautiful, vibrant, friendly, generous, animated and engaged, and she loved life. Filled with brisk, joyous warmth and genuine, heartfelt kindness, she found ways to support people in need. She attracted many lifelong friends in travelling with David around the world. Ever supportive of her husband's interests, she came to love country life and made lifelong friends in Stayner. She joined David and her sons in downhill skiing, becoming an expert who could handle Colorado's black diamond runs. Determined to maintain a relationship with her family, she made dozens of long visits to Australia. Pat reciprocated these visits after Linda was diagnosed with ALS in 2010 and could no longer leave home. Linda loved beauty and insisted on excellence in all aspects of her life: her work; her dress; her home and furnishings; her garden. She expressed herself in needlework, painting and the crafting of clay models of homes. Her garden was featured twice on the Leaside Garden Tour. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27. If desired, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Ontario, 3100 Steeles Avenue East, Markham L3R 8T3. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
