MANDY FLOHIL Obituary

MANDY FLOHIL (MARLENE MARY SCALING) February 16, 1935 - June 17, 2015 It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, after several lengthy illnesses, including rheumatoid arthritis, at the age of 80. She was born in Selby, England and came to Canada in 1957. She worked at DeBoer's Furniture for many years. She worked hard to pay off her house and she loved her home on Calvin Avenue in North York. But more than anything, she loved her children Sara Purves (Jack) and Jill Flohil (Brian) and her grandchildren Kristin Purves (Jason) and Geoffrey Purves. She was a good and loving mom. She also loved Coronation Street, crossword puzzles, going to Red Lobster, taking art classes, Susan Boyle's version of "I Dreamed a Dream" and the many cats who shared her life over the years (especially Tiddles and Abbey). She did her best in the world, raising two teenaged daughters on her own; it was a good thing she had a sense of humour. We would like to thank the many agencies, doctors and nurses who helped us care for Mom, especially in her final years. If desired, donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca/en) or The Arthritis Society (www.arthritis.ca). Condolences for the family may be offered at www.skwarchukfuneralhome.com

So sorry to hear this sad news. Our families had such good times together when our children were little. I treasure the memories. Thank you a Mandy and bless you. Your old friend, Diane

Rest in peace Mandy. You were a big part of my childhood on Calvin Ave with your two daughters Sara and Jill, many cats(who had kittens!) and cocktail hour with my Mom. You were blessed with two loving daughters who will miss you dearly. Calvin Ave. will not be the same without you. Libby xo

We will forever miss and remember our best Calvin Avenue neighbour and my beloved second mother - our many gin and tonics and suppers here and at Tuyen and Chez Laurent plus the many Scrabble games we shared on her lonely, solitary weekends. Love - Sue and Jim

Thank you Mandy,
You took me into your home when things where bad for me at mine and I needed a safe place.

I'll miss my trips to Toronto, wandering around Ikea, snacking on cheese and wine, and catching up - sadly not often enough.
