Marina Kovrig Obituary

MARINA KOVRIG (nee KUCHAR) Passed away on August 9, 2010 in Toronto at the age of 66. Warm, witty and always welcoming, Marina touched many lives with her generous spirit and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Marina was born in Prague, grew up in Montreal and spent her adult life in Toronto. A graduate of Mount Allison University with artistic talent and temperament, she initially taught theatre arts and then founded a design and marketing company while raising her children. In the second half of her life Marina joined the Kuchar family business and ultimately became a Vice-President of Recochem, Inc., where she applied her skills in communication, government relations and management for over two decades. As the first woman to chair the Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association, and as a board member of other organizations, she worked to raise public awareness and improve health, safety and environmental performance in the chemical industry. A passionate writer and public speaker, Marina loved, in her own words, 'cooking, theatre, gardening and changing the world.' She was also a certified sailor who often sought the gentle breezes of the British Virgin Islands. The beloved mother of Ariana and Michael, she also is survived by her father Joseph Kuchar, her sister Eva and her grandson Sebastian. Marina supported several charitable causes, including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), where donations may be made in her name in lieu of flowers. A ceremony and celebration of her life will be held in early September. Please contact [email protected] for information. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com

Ill lend you for a little while,
A child of mine, God said
For you to love the while she lives,
And mourn for when shes dead.
It may be six or seven days
Or forty two or three,
But will you, till I call her back,
Take care of her for me?

Shell bring charms to gladden you
And (should her stay be brief)
You'll have her memories
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay
Since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught below
I want this child to learn.

I‘ve looked this whole world over
In my search for teachers true,
And from the things that crowd lifes lanes
I have chosen you.
Now will you give her all your love
Nor think the labour vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take
This lent child back again?

I will do that I heard them say,
Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joys this child will bring
The risk of grief well run.
We will shelter her with tenderness
Well love her while we may
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay.

But should the angels call for her
Much sooner than we planned
Well brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand.

Dear Eva,

It is now three years since my father passed away but I do recall him telling me that your sister had been ill. I never met her. Nevertheless, I was saddened to read of her death. Please accept our sympathies and kindly convey our best wishes to your father whom I recall often when I think of my dad...they were such wonderful, loyal friends.

We lived as neighbours on Erskine for 11 years. We enjoyed gardening together and were quite in awe of Marina's knowledge and creativity as her garden evolved into a spectacular retreat from the grind of everyday life and we will always remember her elegant garden parties.
She was gracious, generous and warm. When we moved away, we still continued our friendship.
Heartfelt condolences to the family at her very untimely death.
