MARK SANO Obituary

SANO, MARK WARREN January 3, 1968 - October 13, 2020 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mark Sano on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at the young age of 52, with his family by his side. Mark was born on January 3, 1968 in Scarborough to Frank and Shirley Sano. He received his BBM at Ryerson University in 1991 and worked in and around the financial industry throughout his career, most recently with Fidelity Investments. Mark was a natural athlete and avid sportsman. Sports came easily to him. Growing up he played hockey and tennis, and he excelled at both. However, the sport that brought him the most joy was skiing, a love he shared with his parents and sister from a young age. He loved being on the hill and looked forward to sharing this passion with his three children. Many happy childhood memories were built around family ski trips in the winter and camping trips with extended family and friends in the summer. Mark was a loving husband to Natasha, amazing and supportive father to Lauren, Matthew and Ryan; devoted son to Frank and Shirley Sano; cherished brother to Tracee Sano (Bob), fun uncle to Nevin and Zenia, and a very special nephew to Henry. He will be dearly missed by a large circle of extended family and friends who will remember him for his big smile, his compassion and respect for others, and unwavering positivity and resilience, even in the face of a life-threatening illness. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Dennis Kim at Princess Margaret Hospital, for his compassionate care of Mark for the last 18 months. Additional thanks go out to Toronto General Hospital ER and Medical Surgical ICU staff who did everything possible to save our beloved Mark. While the family would like to have a large and inclusive ceremony for Mark, COVID restrictions do not allow for this to happen. A Celebration of Life will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada in Mark's name would be greatly appreciated. Condolences may be forwarded through the Highland Chapel (Scarborough) website Guestbook for Mark Sano.

On behalf of the Executive committee and all the members who knew Mark from the Iroquois Tennis Club, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the Sano family for the loss of your love one.
Mark was a long-time member of the Iroquois Tennis Club. He was an outstanding player starting as a junior member and subsequently, as an adult member for years to follow. He won many club championships in Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Furthermore, he contributed significantly to our STF teams, made our teams competitive for as long as he was with the club. It was always fun and encouraging to play with or against Mark. It was really heartbreaking when he decided to leave the club. We will always treasure our memories of Mark. He will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace.

Dear Natasha and family
I am deeply saddened by this news. Actually, in shock! I'm so sorry that I didn't reach out, as he and I always did, to grab a lunch date. I so enjoyed getting together with him. He was so interested in our family, especially Elisa, something I always appreciated. We will be in touch. Elisabeth and I send our love and sincerest condolences.

I am truly heartbroken. My deepest condolences to the Sano family. I am so sorry to hear about Mark’s passing. He was such a kind person and treated everyone with dignity and respect. I have known him since I was about 4 years old and he was my first doubles partner for STF. I am so thankful to have shared laughs with him and lauren throughout the years. Mark, you were a shining light and mentor to a very green and naive me. So many fond memories of your red Celica-Supra, taiko shows, rehearsals and performances. Thanks for always making sure this teen had a way of getting home and making sure he was fed when we were gigging on the road. Your advice and wisdom are followed still to this day. Sincere condolences to all that were touched by Mark.

While I only knew Mark for a short time, we met because we had cancer in common, it was obvious to me that he was a true warrior. We traded our cancer stories and crappy side effects of treatment and BMT experiences over texts and tried to find the humour in the bad times. Natasha and I traded texts too about their cancer journey. He tried his very best , and sounds like he was a devoted person to his friends and family. I’m glad we got to meet in person, even just for one evening. May you be at peace now Mark. Sending love and hugs to your family.
