MARLENE MCKAY Obituary

MARLENE MCKAY Few people in this world had as much passion and dedication to life as Marlene Mckay did. Born in 1952 in Bethel, Ontario, Marlene's farm upbringing developed in her an intense desire to work hard. She grew a passion for strawberries from working alongside her father in the strawberry fields. One serendipitous afternoon, she was introduced to the love of her life, Rod Mckay. Their love became the foundation of their life's work in raising a family and creating Willowtree Farm. Marlene took her passion for strawberries, her determination to succeed and her love for nature and created a bustling, beautiful farm business that now supports three families. She loved going to farmer's markets with her produce and visiting with her many friends and customers. The pure dedication and commitment that came from one woman in one lifetime is an inspiration to all those fortunate enough to know her. Marlene most courageously battled cancer for five years until she finally passed away peacefully in her home, with family by her side on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Even to the last day she never lost her sense of humour. When asked if there was anything she wanted, with a sparkle in her eye she quipped, "a cigar". She will be met in the afterlife by her parents, Frank and Jeanette; and her mother and father in-law, Bill and Melba. Marlene is survived by her devoted husband, Rod; son Jordan and his wife Alyson; son Alex and his wife Kelty; and grandson Ian; brothers Jerry, Leonard and Joan, Bobby, Peter, and Brent and Tammy; as well as many nieces and nephews whom Marlene loved dearly. One of her greatest wishes in life was to be a grandmother. This dream came true with the birth of Ian Mckay. Marlene was able to spend her last days singing to her grandson, playing with "Guitar Monkey" and competing with him to see who could grow their hair fastest. The Family of Marlene Mckay will receive friends at the Utica Hall on Friday, May 22nd from 6 - 9 p.m. A Service to Celebrate her life will be held in the Utica United Church on Sunday, May 24th at 1 p.m. Interment Hillman Cemetery. A Reception will follow the service at Rod and Marlene's farm. The family requests any donations made through the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) in Marlene's honour, be to either the Epsom-Utica Church or Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre by cheque. Words do not suffice as we try to make sense of the loss of such a vibrant woman, passionate about everything - loved and loving! We met Marlene early on this train of life - thanks to Rod, and we have marveled at her energy ever since. Marlene has stepped down from this life's train and, with all the sad farewells, she will be sorely missed.

Marlene was a great woman and funny lady with lots of energy. She had a wicked sense of humor and was a great mom to her family. I've been friends with their son for many years, and she was always there for her sons and supported everything they did. She will be missed.
