NITSOS, Mary January 4, 1937 - July 30, 2021 It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Nitsos (née Peros), announces her death on Friday, July 30, 2021, at the age of 84. Born on January 4, 1937, Mary was the loving daughter of Anna and Tasse Peros, and the sister of Vasil (Andranika), Mike (Lyla), and Steve (Trudy). She attended Jarvis Collegiate Institute before graduating from the Toronto Teachers' College, and grew up deeply entrenched in the Macedonian community of Toronto's East End. It was there that she met the love of her life, Mike Nitsos, who she married on August 4, 1957. Mary was the proud, loving and involved mother to Nick (Joyce), Anna Marie (Ricky), and Yvonne (Ronnie). She was the considerate and affectionate Baba to Stephanie (Erik), Michael (Paula), Troy, Maria and Grayson, all of whom loved her dearly. She was the daughter-in-law of Kole and Stoyanka Nitsos, and the sister-in-law of Marianka, George, Helen (Peter) and Louie (Marianti). She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Mary was very proud of her career as a teacher and fondly remembered her students at Pape Avenue Elementary School, as well as her longtime involvement with the Banitsa Benevolent Society. Mary's family was the centre of her world, as she was ours. She leaves with us a legacy of strength, selflessness and kindness. She is already deeply missed. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 2nd, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Highland Funeral Home - Scarborough Chapel (3280 Sheppard Avenue East). Anyone who wishes to attend is invited to do so - please note there will be COVID-19 restrictions in place limiting the number of visitors at a time. A private family service will be held on Tuesday, August 3rd at Highland Funeral Home - Scarborough Chapel at 12:00 p.m., before interment at Pine Hills Cemetery.
