MICHAEL MURPHY Obituary

MICHAEL PATRICK MURPHY Retired TTC employee Peacefully at home on December 10, 2012 in his 78th year, surrounded by family, Michael went to his eternal rest. Beloved husband of Agnes. Loving father to Michelle (Tim Croteau) and Catharine (Brian Empey). Cherished Grandad to Declan, Julia, Michael and Mark. Son of the late John and Elizabeth Murphy. Predeceased by his siblings, Tom, Ted, Jim and Lill. Mike will be missed by his family and friends in Ireland, England and Canada. Having immigrated from Kildare, Ireland in 1957 Mike forged friendships that would grow to become his Canadian family. A 34 ½ year employee of TTC, Mike worked as a mechanic throughout city garages, retiring in 1994 from Arrow Road with many friends and happy memories. Mike's later years were spent as a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society, visiting Ireland and rebuilding his family home in Rheban, Athy and countless hours enjoying his grandchildren. Mike will be remembered for his kindness, generous spirit and integrity. Never a moment wasted, a life well lived, Mike will be missed but lives on in every kind gesture given in friendship and hope. Mike's family would like to thank Dr. Benjamin and the palliative care team, Dr. Sayal for his care and friendship, and Dr. Pandaya and the Kidney Function Clinic team. Family and friends will be received at the Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel and Reception Centre, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville on Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 181 Sewell Drive, Oakville at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Kidney Foundation of Canada. Online condolences may be shared at www.glenoaks.ca

Dear Agnes and family...my deepest condolences to you and your family. I was so sad to hear that Mike was unwell, but at least he had his family around him. I think of him often and those Irish Eyes of his that were often "up to no good" . I know that Mike is up in heaven with my Dad, having a pint and catching up.
My love to you all.....God Bless. oxoxo

Remembering Mike and our summer in Canada with you all,I'm sure you are looking down on us and will help us with our Christmas tests,as today was Jersey day in Colaiste Lorcain to raise funds for a new school sports kit (my School in Castledermot)In my mind, there was a choice to be made between The *Kildare" Jersey and the "Blue Jays" Jersey, that you and Agnes gave me on our holiday. In your honour Mike and of all the tips I have learnt from you about knowing how to kick the Gaelic ball with both feet, I wore the "blue jays" and am glad you seen me playing my matches in Grange. From your "Irish Grandchildren",We miss you Mike and love you, Shannon and Daniel Mackey, xxxx
