I knew Michael (Mike) for over 25 years and was lucky enough to have shared many great memories with him. Our friendship began when we met in grade 7. We also lived on the same street for 6 years. Despite our differences, me being Jamaican and Mike being Slovak, we quickly became close friends and ‘partners in crime’. In more recent years we would spend countless hours reminiscing about the times we shared as kids growing up. Some of the experiences that were most memorable in our minds were; the boys’ choir in grade 7, being track and field teammates, terrorizing the neighborhood kids (especially Susan and Karen), creating our own comedy tapes, cartoons, and skits to entertain ourselves, sleepovers at his house, creating our own break-dance group when break dancing was the new craze, the list goes on and on. After public school we went to different high schools and didn’t see each other as often but always kept in touch to share our experiences.
Besides his ability to always make me laugh through his wit and intelligence, what I will remember most about Mike was his polite, kind, and generous nature to everyone. He always put others interests ahead of his own and always tried to making those around him happy. His personality serves as a testament to the high vales and morals his mother, Emily Radvansky instilled in him. He was also the epitome of a gentleman in the way he conducted himself. For example, Mike would never visit our home without bringing flowers for my mother or a small gift for my family. Selfless would be a great way to describe him.
He was a professional in all aspects of his life and he always strived for perfection in all activities that he participated in. These qualities were evident in his career as a Chef, dancing with his Slovak dance group, and learning about different cultures through his many trips to South America.
He was like a brother to me and will be dearly missed. Rest in peace my friend.
Your friend always,
David.
