Miriam Armitage Obituary
ARMITAGE, Miriam (nee Sullivan) - Died at Rideaucrest Home in Kingston, Ontario on September 24, 2011, where she had lived for almost 6 years. She was the beloved wife of David Armitage for over 40 years. She was predeceased by her parents Georgina and Raymond Sullivan. Miriam is fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and her many friends. Miriam was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick on December 23, 1926. She was a popular and talented student. After graduation, she won a scholarship to Business College and graduated with honours. She worked in Moncton and Montreal before moving to Toronto in 1954. She held a number of positions which culminated in an executive secretarial position for Sherritt, a mining company. Miriam was bright and intelligent and had a reputation for making independent decisions. She had a good grasp of the affairs of the company. Miriam spent almost 30 years with Sherritt and often said that she was very happy with her job and loved going to work each day. In the early 1960s, Miriam was a member of the congregation of Timothy Eaton Memorial Church in Toronto and the Trident Club, a social group for singles. She was known as a high-spirited and fun-loving lady. There, she met David in 1964 and four years later they were married. It was the beginning of a very successful and happy marriage. Many wonderful memories were created during years of weekends and summers in the Bancroft area with friends and neighbours. A celebration of her life will be held at in the chapel of the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West (2 stop lights west of Yonge Street), Toronto, Ontario, on Thursday, September 29th, 3 p.m. with visiting 1 hour prior to the service. Donations in Miriam's memory may be made to The Salvation Army. Time may hide the sadness, As a smile can hide the tears, But love and memories will hold you close Throughout the passing years.
