MIRIAM WEBSTER Obituary

MIRIAM BONDE WEBSTER August 21, 1934 - February 18, 2016 Died in hospital after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Beloved mother of Susan Athrens (Craig), Peter (Gillian) and Eugene (former wife, Karen). Predeceased by her son Thomas. Loving Grandma to Joshua and Noah. Dear friend of Jodie Perrin. Older sister to Charlotte and Morris (Nancy) Bonde. After a long career with Laurentian Imperial/Desjardins Insurance, Miriam devoted herself to volunteer work with the Todmorden Mills Wildflower Preserve, the Toronto Zoo, the Board of the Bain Avenue Housing Cooperative, and the New Democratic Party. She had wide interests including a love of natural history, art and architecture, and juicy historical biographies. We are grateful to the doctors whose efforts on her behalf enabled Miriam to live life on her own terms as much as possible until the end - Dr. Robert Urback, Dr. Sarah Colman, Dr. Galit Kleiner- Fishman, Dr. William Brien, and Dr. Vu Kiet Tran, who came to our rescue on her last day. Many thanks also to Ryan Stott of TD Wealth Financial Planning for ensuring that Miriam's resources lasted to the end. As Miriam's world shrank, her love for Rosemary Barton and the "Power and Politics" team kept her alive - we knew we were on borrowed time once the federal election was over. In lieu of flowers, donations on Miriam's behalf to "Todmorden Mills Wildflower Reserve" (a registered charity) c/o 331 Linsmore Crescent, Toronto M4J 4M1 or her beloved NDP would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held at Metropolitan United Church, 56 Queen St. E., Toronto on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

Very sorry for your loss. I remember Miriam's devotion to the NDP. We spoke often at Metropolitan United Church. She left her mark. I will miss our chats.

Our thoughts are with you all at this time. Miriam was an amazing and loving grandmother to the boys. They are very sad and wish they could be there. We will light a candle for her on 5/3.

Much love

Karen

My eyes already touch the sunny hill.
going far ahead of the road I have begun.
So we are grasped by what we cannot grasp;
it has inner light, even from a distance-

and charges us, even if we do not reach it,
into something else, which, hardly sensing it,
we already are; a gesture waves us on
answering our own wave...
but what we feel is the wind in our faces.
