Modris was my second dad and mentor when I came to work at Westviee Centennial back when I was a first year teacher. I coached volleyball under his wings and I learned so much about coaching, teaching and living in Toronto on my own. What an amazing person. My deepest condolences to his family and May God keep his under his wings as he did for so many people. Love always.

By coincidence (or perhaps not), I just happened to pull up this picture from my 1984-85 highschool yearbook today to send to a friend as we reminisced about our high school sporting days. Mr. Lorgergs was my grade 11 volleyball coach at George S. Henry SS and I learned a great deal from him about being a team player. (see the attached picture and read the wonderful message he wrote to me back then). He certainly loved sport!
I was sad to learn he had left this world less than one week ago when I decided to look him up to see what he had been doing since we were last together.
MK, I am sure you will find a great game of volleyball to be a part of up in Heaven.
To MK's family and friends, please accept my deepest condolescences for your loss. May he Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.

My deepest condolences to the family...it's a true honour to have been able to work with Modris. Although it's been a lifetime since I worked at Westview with him, I can still fondly recall his great smile and kindness towards all the staff and students. He had the type of personality who inspired others to be caring and positive.

In memory of a wonderful person. Modris helped launch my Latvian Sporting career (at the tender age of 35) with an invitation to the Baltic Swim Meet. He openly welcomed me as a part Latvian from London Ontario and for several years it was a high-light on my swimming calendar (and he was great with my young twins when they swam in a couple of the meets too!) We had a good time cheering on the Latvian Junior hockey team in Toronto. My thoughts go out to an amazing and caring family.

Modris will remain an Iconic figure within the Latvian sports organization. He devoted decades of his life to managing, coaching and organizing sporting events for Latvian athletes in Canada. He was the President of LSAK.
As a volleyball coach, Modris ( Moe ) possessed a unique set of attributes. He gained the technical knowledge of the game while working as an international referee and he gained valuable teaching skills while working as a professional teacher. His creative combination of these attributes made him the talented coach that he was and it earned admiration and respect from other coaches and from the players that had the privilege of playing for him.
First met Moe in 1980 at Madawaska volleyball camp, where he was a coach. The following summer he drove me down to Garezers ( Michigan Latvian camp ) for the first time and coached our v-ball team in their annual tourney. He was a dedicated coach of our Latvian 1982 Juvenile and 1983 Junior men’s volleyball teams that competed in the OVA at a high level.
He organized and managed the popular, annual Toronto Kauss Latvian volleyball tourney that featured a very high calibre of v-ball and included several distinguished players who at the time represented either their country, province, state or university in the game of volleyball.
Though volleyball was his main love, during his stint as President of LSAK he helped manage and organize other sporting competitions for Latvians to participate in including; hockey, swimming, basketball, golf, curling and soccer.
Modris tought us by example that success is a combination of dedication, hard work and discipline.
Above all, though, Moe was our friend. He was always very approachable, willing to listen and help out others. A true philanthropist.
Thank you Moe! Job well done! Rest in Peace.
I extend my sincere condolences to the entire Lorberg family for their loss.

I worked with Modris at Westview for about 8 years. He was a wonderful teacher, coach and friend. I will always remember his love for his family, he was so proud of his girls.
Modris was a mentor to me and exemplified all of the qualities that were important for coaching. He coached many volleyball teams at westview to success, he held numerous timing clinics for swimming, and was always willing to lend a hand.
Modris was thoughtful and kind.
I am so very sorry for you loss...
