MYRTLE McELROY Obituary

McELROY, MYRTLE FERN Born July 27, 1928 in Highland Grove, ON to Evelyna and William Andrews. One of seven children: Frank, Audrey, Evelyn, Ken, Nadeen and Allan. Mom came to Toronto at the young age of 17 to work as a nanny. Mom met our Dad; Stan and got married on August 1, 1950. They then welcomed Debra (Brian), Susan (John), Douglas (Karen) and Patricia (Andrew). Mom enjoyed 43 years of marriage until Dad's passing in 1994. Mom was a faithful member of Dorset Park Baptist Church for over 65 years; and knew that she would be reunited in heaven with many relatives and friends. Mom and Dad were avid travellers and enjoyed many family trips to Florida, Hawaii, British Isles, Europe, Fiji and Australia. Mom also traveled to Israel with her dear friend Verna. Mom was also blessed with a special 10-year friendship with Geoff Hearn. Mom was a very social and independent woman who loved being with her family at all the special occasions which included lots of food and laughter. Mom had 11 grandchildren, Leslie (Donato), Kevin, Evan (Daisy,) James, Mathew, Hailey (Donald), Matthew, Jennifer (Michael), Scott, Katrina and David. Mom also welcomed great-grandchildren, Ryan, Morgan, Ayden, Riley, Rayne. Mom struggled with the isolation of Covid and eventually lost her battle with dementia. A small private family service is taking place on March 27, 2021. Please send your condolences to www.chapelridgefh.com

I work on the Pastoral Care team at Shepherd Village, and it was always a pleasure to visit with Myrtle. Even with advancing dementia, she was always so gracious and she loved to have prayer together. I remember when I last saw her in February, she was able to recite her beloved Psalm 23. She will be dearly missed by all of us at the Village.

Myrtle had so much joy and my memories of her involve her smiling or laughing. She and Stan created a family marked by love and hospitality. She will be missed. Much love to all those who loved her and were loved by her. ❤

I had promised Myrtle, my former neighbor ( 47) that we would reconnect for a coffee after Covid. She was just a most delightful individual. Myrtle and Stan were a matched pair of very happy people, even in the face of adversity. They were both such proud parents. When we last got together, she had photos of the kids ( the eldest ones, I had not seen since they were teenagers ). I miss them both.
