Nadine STABLEFORTH Obituary

STABLEFORTH, Nadine (nee SIMS) October 11, 1928 to September 2, 2017 Passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Amica Unionville Retirement Home, in her 89th year. Nadine, beloved wife for 64 years of Charles Austen (predeceased). Dear mother of Rod (Linda), Ted (Bev), Mark and David, cherished grandmother of Ashleigh (Colby), Benn (Janelle), Evan (Sarah), Jamie and Tristen. Very proud great-grandmother of Emma Rose. Predeceased by her parents William and Nancy. Nadine emigrated from Wales in 1929 and grew up in Toronto. She married Austen on June 24, 1950 at St. Paul's Anglican Church. As a new bride, she initially lived in Sault Ste. Marie and lived the rest of her life in Scarborough, Willowdale and Unionville. After her "boys" became independent, Mom went back to school for her Library Science Degree at Seneca College and became the Assistant Librarian at Zion Heights Junior High. During their retirement, Nadine and Austen hit the road for many trips including Europe, New Zealand and Australia, interspersed with many winters in Bradenton, Florida. Nadine was a force of nature who did not go quietly into that good night. She loved life and never saw herself as being "elderly". She was energetic, bright, determined, inquisitive, frugal and full of mischief. She was highly sociable and never happier than when she was entertaining. She loved music, dancing and the many summers spent at the cottage. Mom made and kept friends easily throughout her life, from her childhood on Huntley Street, her bridge club for over 50 years, her neighbourhoods, her Church, her fellow cottagers on Davis Lake and Wyndham Gardens in Unionville. Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Amica Unionville Floor 4, all CCAC staff and the Oncology and Palliative Care team at Markham Stouffville Hospital, in particular Dr. Mateya Trinkaus. Their loving care over the last 11 months was wonderful. Nadine has been cremated. A memorial service and interment will take place on Thursday, September 7th. There will be a visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by a service at 2:00 p.m., both of which to be held at St. Philip's-on-the-hill Anglican Church in Unionville (9040 Kennedy, north of 16th Avenue), followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Philip's-on-the-Hill Church. Online condolences can be made at www.chapelridgefh.com

Dear Stableforth Family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Nadine was wild, and those who knew her, LOVED that about her. She loved being with her family and friends, and the feeling was mutual. She will be missed and remembered often with lots of laughter and affection.
