Neil SIMPSON Obituary

SIMPSON, Neil MacMillan We are sad to share that our father, Neil MacMillan Simpson, of Mississauga, Ontario, passed away on January 10, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born to parents James and Mary Simpson on April 6, 1945 in Weston, Toronto. He had incredible pride in being Canadian, while never forgetting his Scottish heritage. He graduated from The University of Toronto where he received a degree in Chemical Engineering, with a specialization in metallurgy as evidenced by the iron ring he proudly wore on his pinky finger. Neil was a pioneer in nuclear power safety standards. He held Canada's seat at the ASME for Nuclear and shared his expertise and knowledge globally across his field. He was married to Geraldine Keane at Our Lady of Sorrows and is survived by his four children; Ian, Carley, Nikki, and Tyler. He was incredibly proud of all their endeavors, particularly those that were sports related. He appreciated a winning team and proudly supported the growth of women's sports in Canada. Neil loved fast cars and speed boats. He loved tinkering with computers and renovations. He loved relaxing and watching the Leaf's games. He loved being at the cottage. Huntsville, Ontario was a second home to him throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and forever loved. The visitation will be held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, 905 257 8822, on Thursday, January 19th from 5-8 p.m. The memorial service will be held at All Saints Kingsway Anglican Church, 2850 Bloor Street W., Toronto on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Park Lawn Cemetery, Toronto. If desired, people may plant a tree in remembrance at www.alivingtribute.ca or send flowers to the funeral home.

My husband and I send our condolences on Neil´s passing. I went to public school and high school with Neil. He lived across the street from me on Lawrence Ave. We were best friends in the early years in public school. He was fun loving with a twinkle in his eye, and always ready to play "cowboys and Indians" and base ball in the school yard with the rest of the gang. The first picture is the grade 6 class in front of Hardington Public School. The second is on a high school trip to Stratford. The last two from the grade 13 year book. I was invited to spend the holidays one summer with the Simpson family at a cottage in Halliburton. It is a memory I´ll always cherish. The whole family always made me feel welcomed and comfortable. They were generous and kind. After high school we went our own ways.

Neil and I went steady all through high school ( Weston Collegiate) . We parted ways soon after graduating. He to U of T and me to nursing school in Whitby Ontario. I have many happy memories of the cottage on Fairy Lake and Neil letting me drive the boat and a car the family called " The bomb". We went our separate ways for years and communicated only by e-mail since 2020 catching up on old times. I lived in Wasaga Beach when Cammy passed and did not know he lived there also. Hope Craig is well. We lost touch about 6 or so months ago . I guess due to Covid? I very much wish we could have had a chance to see each other in person but it was not meant to be . He was a kind and good person . My s to the family during these hard days.
