NEIL STEVENS Obituary

STEVENS, NEIL EDWARD Neil Edward Stevens, born June 14, 1947, died April 1, 2022 from cancer diagnosed October 2019. "To Cathie, our children, Jessica, Paula and Kimberley, to their husbands, Craig, Michael and Duke, and to our grandchildren, Noah, Ayden, Chloe, Liam, Kieran, Tristan and Olivia, you made my life worthwhile. I will love you always." Classic Neil…passing away on April 1. With aching hearts, we announce the passing of our wonderful husband and dad. Neil was born in St. Catharines, ON, and raised in Port Dalhousie. Son of John and Marguerite and big brother to Bill and Carolyn. Special friend and brother-in-law to Carol and Keith Hensley, George Hannahson, Ivy Stevens and Bruce Thompson. Friend to Jan Aiken. Uncle and great-uncle to many. Neil was anchored to his family; he was an entertaining and loving papa to his seven grandchildren. A gifted writer-he loved his job as a journalist starting with the Peterborough Examiner, Sudbury Star and Canadian Press; 29 years in the sports department. His job took him to fantastic places, and he formed lasting friendships with many colleagues. A true "Port" boy, he loved lacrosse, Ipperwash sunsets, bonfires and Bob Dylan tunes, playing Not Dark Yet, just after sunset, every night. The girls and I will always miss our witty and fun-loving humorous partner and dad. It was a good road to travel with him-some twists and turns-but mostly open roads and blue skies. We hope he is still travelling and gazing at dazzling sunsets. Neil loved life and all those who lived it with him. Be kind and welcoming to each other, always. -30- Please consider a donation to the Bethell Hospice Foundation.

An incredible talent and an even better human being. I was fortunate to work in his organization and be able to observe his work, style and sense of humour _ especially on those occasions when beside him in a press box. He is truly one of those people who is worthy of the phrase: "We will never see his like, again." My condolences to his family.

Dear Cathie and family,
Such a sad time -- the tragic coincidence of Neil's and Joanne's passing. As I was visiting Joanne in the hospital over the past several weeks we caught up on old times and old friends and she mentioned that Neil was quite ill but she did not know of his passing,
Thanks you for your note on Joanne's memorial page and may I offer my own very sincere condolences to you and your family.
Be well.
