I was so sorry to hear about this. I remember Prof. Elson from my very early years at York - he made me feel quite comfortable as a new Faculty member and Winter's college Fellow. I wish you, his family, much peace and good memories of your times with him...

Dear Andrea, I was very sad to hear about Nick. Although it had been many years since I had seen him, I have never forgotten the impact he had on me as an ESL teacher in Toronto and London, Ontario in the 1980s. I was inspired by his dedication and he was someone I respected enormously. My deepest condolences to you and the family.

I just heard the news of Nick's death, Andrea, and want you to know how sad I feel for you and the rest of his family. He was a great colleague to both Richard and me. I especially appreciated his principled dealing with issues combined with his wit and warmth with people. The news from Puebla today is no doubt adding to your stress. Please accept my condolences.

In my time as Senior Tutor of Winters College and thereafter, he could be counted upon always for sage advice and quiet good humour
Never was he other than the consummate gentleman and ever truly a gentle soul

My condolences to Nick's family. He was the first person I met at York university. The music dept. shared floors with the English dept. at Winters. My teaching room was next to his office and after a couple of lessons he came over and asked if I could teach with my door open. He attended several of my concerts and we became friends. I will miss Professor Nick Elson.

I was so fortunate to have Nick as a mentor when I was first hired in DLLL. He was inspiring in so many ways. I admired his lifelong commitment, as a public advocate and educator, to raising the status and professionalization of ESL teachers. I also admired how he managed meetings and administrative duties with such patience and integrity. I will also miss our many conversations about musicof favourite groups, memorable concerts and preferred instruments. My deepest condolences to Andrea and family.
