PETER CHIKOWSKI Obituary

PETER CHIKOWSKI August 3, 1919 - August 1, 2012 If family is the recipe, Uncle Peter was a main ingredient. It saddens us to announce the passing of Peter Chikowski, who was Uncle Peter to everyone. Those of us left behind mourn, but also celebrate the man who was our uncle and friend, who lived an uncomplicated but full life and just the way he wanted. Peter was brother of Ann, Teklia and Mishko of Poland, Bill Chikowski and Sadie Wludyka of Toronto and Fred Chikowski and Mike Senkowski, of Alonsa, Manitoba, all deceased. He will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Pauline Senkowski. He was a "great" uncle to Sophie and Wally Telewiak, Dianne Wludyka (deceased), MaryAnne Gugula, Richard Chikowski (deceased), Gary and Rosemary Chikowski, Terry and Carolyn Chikowski, Doreen and Larry Wutzke, Marlene and Rae Armit, Charlene and Travis Mozdzen and David and Carol Senkowski; great- uncle to David Telewiak, Andrea and Nick Milanetti, Bobby and Tamar Telewiak, Matthew and Megan Gugula, Andrew and Angela Gugula and Joanna Gugula. Uncle Peter will be missed by his many great-great nieces and nephews in Manitoba and here, especially Alexia and Peter Chikowski, Nicole, Sophia and Thea Milanetti and Kate and Alexa Gugula, who were all very special to him. He would have been all smiles holding the soon-to-arrive Baby T. Peter was 10 years old when he arrived from Poland with his family in 1929 at Pier 21, Halifax. From there the family travelled to Alonsa, Manitoba to become homesteaders. As a young man he enlisted in the RCAF and served in Canada. Upon leaving the Air Force, he returned to Toronto and worked at Bloor- Lansdowne Hardware, the family business, until his retirement. Peter's engaging and cheerful disposition brought a sparkle of life into the lives of everyone he met and seldom a day passed without sharing a laugh. He was simply fun to be with and well-liked by young and old. He was an enthusiastic dancer, a trophy-winning bowler, a bounty-sharing gardener and a fun-loving pal at the cottage. Serving at his parish, Our Lady of Peace, brought him much joy and many caring and lasting friends. We miss him, we love him and we are so grateful to have had him as such a huge part of our lives. We are sure he is dancing in heaven now. We would like to thank all the staff at Copernicus Lodge and especially those on One South who cared for Uncle Peter with love and kindness. He felt that Copernicus was his home and became part of the warm community there. Friends will be welcomed at Lynett Funeral Home, 3299 Dundas St. W., Monday 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Prayers Monday at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 3914 Bloor St. W. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. He would be honoured if a donation to Copernicus Lodge Foundation, 66 Roncesvalles Ave., Toronto, M6R 3A7 or Our Lady of Peace Campaign Fund, 3914 Bloor St. W. Toronto, M9B 1L7 was made in his name. Online condolences may be offered at www.lynettfuneralhome.ca

I was so saddened to hear about Uncle Peter. What a kind and gentle soul he was - always with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. I will remember fondly dancing with him at Pani Ploska's. He will be missed.

I remember "Uncle Peter". He was my girlfriend, Sophie's uncle. I would always see him when I went to her house. This is many years ago, back in the 50's. It is so true that he always had a smile. That's how I will always remember him. I loved the obituary in the paper. To be so loved is such a gift but that's how everyone felt about him.

Every once in a while someone special comes into our lives. Peter could light up a room with his spirit and soothe our souls with his kindness and compassion. Peter had a twinkle in his eyes, an infectious laugh, and he always had a great story to tell. We will miss Peter and we feel blessed that we had an opportunity to know him.

Dear Chikowski Family
Pan Peter was my mom's (Stasia) neighbour at Copernicus. What a lovely man - always a smile, a good conversation and a thoughtful kind soul. I am so sorry for your loss and am thankful we were blessed to have him as a neighbour for a few years at Copernicus.

So glad we got to see Uncle Peter last August and share laughter with him. His obituary says it all. What a wonderful human being he was. When he entered a room the fun began. So sorry to hear of his passing.

Our condolences to all of your family!!
