PETER DILL Obituary

PETER JOSEPH DILL Passed away with his precious, giving heart on Saturday, January 11, 2014 in his 73rd year in the loving company of his children and wife of 32 years, Jacquie Cushing Dill. Predeceased by his parents Mary and Ralph Dill. Faithful brother of Mary Lou Quealey. Treasured brother-in-law of Karen Cushing, Bill Martin and Michael Quealey. Loving father of Jamey, Stephen and Mary Elizabeth. Cherished uncle of David (Kristen), Katie, Kyle, Allison and Caroline, and his grandnephew/nieces Riley, Emily and Camrynn. Dear friend to the many. Peter's life's ministry, whether as a parish priest or in working with families and organizations in building communities of inclusion for people with developmental disabilities, was his passion and, together with his absolute devotion and commitment to his family, his raison d'etre. Peter's quest for love and community was profound and inspired all those who had the privilege to know and love him. Visitation will be held at the DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME, 166 Main Street N. (Markham Road), Markham, on Sunday, January 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 13th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 5633 Highway 7, Markham. Interment to follow. In memory of Peter, donations may be made to L'Arche Daybreak or Markham Stouffville Hospital.

This is a man that you will never forget. He had a calming effect on everyone which perhaps made him so perfect for the job he did. He was persistent yet gentle and always fun to be around. He had intuition and always knew how to handle situations with tact. To his family, I know you will miss him deeply, however cherish the moments spent with such a man, and anticipate the life hereafter for many more to come. Thanks Peter for everything you worked so hard to accomplish. Jackie Burnfield

Dear Jacquie, Jamey, Stephen, and Mary Elizabeth, we are very saddened to hear about Peter. Although it has been a few years since we have seen your family, I have kept up with your activities through Karen. Peter was a wonderful person and I cannot imagine how great the loss is for you. We will always cherish the time we spent with you, especially on our 1996 camping trip to Allegany - great memories. Take Care.

Peter was one of those people that I hardly knew but who had a profound impact in introducing our family to the Daybreak community where my sister has lived for the past 35 years. Please ad us to the list of those who have benefited from Peter's not-so-random acts of kindness. He is remembered with deep gratitude.

No one taught me more about treating every person with respect, dignity and love. I hope someday I can actually think and do consistently what Peter seemed to do by his very nature.
My sympathies to his family and to all of us who have lost a wonderful person.

The privilege of knowing Peter enhanced and inspired hundreds of lives . He was totally self-effacing and tireless in his quest for the best that humanity is capable of. Even if you felt anxiously challenged , you always felt ... safe . His spirit will always be with us , and for that , I am forever grateful .
