PETER FRASER Obituary

PETER ALEXANDER FRASER January 22, 1947 - November 17, 2014 Passed away at the age of 67 after a lengthy illness with cancer. Like the strong man he was, he held off this horrible disease longer than anyone expected. Peter, as I sit by your side on the last days of your life's journey, I pray that your courage will give me the strength to continue on and represent you proudly. Thank you for the enduring love you have for our family: myself, your wife of 43 years Sheila Elizabeth Fraser; your children: daughter Cheryl Lynne Assaly, her husband Mathew and grandchildren Tyson and Owen; your son Robert Peter Fraser, his wife Kathryn, and grandchildren Mia and Gabriel; and your sister Valerie Rowe, her husband David, nephew Fraser and niece Catherine "Cassie", will miss you forever. Your family and close friends who have supported us through this sad journey will always remember your generosity, love of life and tremendous spirit; even your "corny" jokes and your unbridled laughter, as you also enjoyed them. Then, there was, of course, how much you loved to win (especially at cribbage and bridge). You gave meaning to the phrase, "The right to gloat!". We will all treasure and hold close these times spent together. We are all so proud of what you stood for and what you accomplished in your life. You graduated from the University of Toronto in the 1970 class of Chemical Engineering. Your career led you to the Dow Chemical Company in Sarnia, Ontario, Lake Jackson, Texas, and then to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. After we both retired, our time was spent between travel, our cabin and our acreage home. You spent much of your retirement serving on the Board of the Edmonton Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and helping friends, neighbours and family with building projects - from fences to special shelves for the rooms of new grandchildren. We travelled to special places (I believe we best loved our memories of our visit to South Africa). We learned how to sail off the coast of Vancouver Island. And of course, you spent hours perfecting your golf game with your golf buddies. This only touches on your many achievements and the activities you enjoyed. You are my special friend and love and life without you will never be the same. Whatever the future holds for me and our family, you will always be with us. On July 10, 2013 (our 42nd wedding anniversary) we held a wonderful get-together, so that Peter could enjoy visiting with as many close friends and family as could attend. In good humour, Peter liked to refer to this get-together as his "A-Wake!" Our family would like to extend a very special thank you to the following groups and people who helped extend Peter's life as long as humanly and medically possible: Dr. Annette Begalke, Dr. Kata Matic, Dr. Curtis Boyington, the doctors and nurses in Radiology at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the nurses at the I.V. Clinic at the Grey Nuns Hospital, the doctors and nurses at the Cross Cancer Hospital and the wonderful Home Care Nurses at the Sherwood Park Health Unit. These people went above and beyond to help Peter. Their compassion, sense of humour and sincere interest in the care and comfort of Peter, will always be remembered by our family. We will never be able to truly express the extent of our gratitude. To our close friends and family, your kindness throughout Peter's illness went beyond the bounds of friendship; your companionship while Peter worked on projects in his workshop at the lake, your notes of love and kind thoughts, your help when we moved from the acreage to our new home, your many visits to our home, your generous invitations to visit your homes, countless dinners and gifts, your phone calls, emails, texts and especially your time - spent with Peter and sometimes both of us. All of these kindnesses were so appreciated by Peter and the memories will always be with me. A Memorial Service - Remembering Peter, will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Reception Centre at Foster & McGarvey Edmonton South located at 4820 Meridian Street, Edmonton (Meridian Street can only be accessed by heading SOUTH on the Anthony Henday - Hwy. 216. The exit ramp is 1 km SOUTH of the Sherwood Park Fwy.). To see a map, visit www.fostermcgarvey.com A private family burial will take place in the Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Sherwood Park, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to a charity of your choice in Peter's memory. Foster & McGarvey Funeral Home Edmonton South 780-463-6666

I was very fortunate to have worked for Pete at EO Products. There were some good people at the Fort over the years and he was one of the best. It was always good to see him in the unit as he usually had something funny to say.
He obviously touched many lives going by the guest book entries and all I can add is that it was an honour to have known and worked for him.

Sheila and family my deepest sympathies on the loss of Peter. For the short time I knew you both I felt are real family like connection. Peter beat the odds for his condition and he did it with such a great attitude and strength. I am pround to of been part of his care during his illness. Unfortunately I only became aware of Peter's passing the day of the funeral and was unable to attend. I would have been there otherwise and Dr. Boyington as well. Peter is at peace and resting comfortably in Gods arms. I pray for strength and healing of your heart sheila. Take Care, Kari HPT GNH

Peter's family. Very saddened to hear of Pete's passing. A great leader with unparalleled people skills, one who took the time coach and mentor, stop by the shops or the control rooms to chat with the crews. What an example to set for others! His ''visioning'' sessions at Floating Stone were legendary. Enjoy the memories. My sincere condolences.

Pete as my boss treated me so well when I needed to be with my Dad dying of liver cancer while I was working at CA II in the early 1980's. Being a survivor of kidney and bladder cancer, I appreciate his battle. Great to see so many of my Dow friends pay tribute to Pete. Prayers for your family.

Please accept our sympathies, Sheila, which we extend you and your family. Bob Wendeborn kindly sent me news that we have lost Peter. I am so saddened that Peter is no longer with us. Pete was a true friend in our youth and it was one of my great pleasures in adulthood that Bob arranged for the three of us to reconnect. It was wonderful to see Valerie after so many years, and for Jill and I to be host to you and Peter in Brampton. We share your loss and send our condolences and love.

Sheila and Family,

It was a great honor for me to know and work with Pete. He was such a fine person in every describable way. For a guy from South Louisiana, one of the best experiences of all time was the weekend I spent at your cabin with Pete and few other Dow guys snowmobiling and playing cards. The weather was wonderful and the company was even better. I am very sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you all.

Miss Sheila, I think of you so often. I am thankful that you were so happy and welcoming of the so many people that wanted to share time with you both while Pete was fighting this big fight. I will miss my friend Pete. I learned so much from him as a young Engineer. He took me under his wing while we were both in the Chlor Alkali Tech Center and he escorted me around the globe on so many tech center visits that I will never forget. Pete was an exceptional man and while his life was cut short he had a big impact on many people during the time he had. Hugs to your whole amazing family! xoxo

My deepest sympathy to Sheila and family. I worked with Peter in late 90's early 2000's on the Louisiana project and made a few visits to the Fort - Peter was always extraordinarily generous with his time - I'll never forget trying to finish 18th hole across the ravine to the green bathed in car headlights ! Peter was such a wonderful guy. Regards & sympathies.

I'm very sorry hear of Peter's passing.
I will always remember him as most personable first and business second.
He used to come into the control room and talk about his projects, his golf and his love of being out in the cabin with you and the family.
I only recall him as a man in good health and will always remember him that way I'll never forget his smile and how always used to leave a pearl of wisdom as he walked back to his office.
I am better off for having known him.
Wishing you all the strength you need during this difficult time

To Sheila Fraser
My most sincere condolences to you and your family on your most profound loss. Peter was a wonderful man and a great friend to, and past Chair of, the MS Society of Canada, Edmonton and Capital Region Chapter. We shall miss him. On a personal note, I feel blessed that I was able to spend a number of late afternoons over a beverage and good discussion in the latter part of his life: afternoons I very much looked forward to. Peters continued good spirits, positive attitude, and ability to focus on excellent social conversation during those precious visits were an inspiration to me and I shall remember him fondly for that. He was a remarkable man and will be missed.

I worked at the CAII plant in Fort Saskatchewan while Peter was the Production Leader. He always had a good sense of humour and took the time to get to know everyone. And even though I only worked for him for a couple years...when I saw him about 20 years later, he still remembered me. That says alot about the kind of person he was and that he cared about the people that worked for him.
My deepest condolences to you on his passing.

Sheila and family, please accept our sincerest sympathy on the passing of Peter. Lana and I have so many memories of our good times with the both of you, our bon fires, and the rejuvenating of the Glenwood Park Estates sign, relying on Peter for the engineering of the reconstruction, and all the laughs we had doing that project. Everytime we drive by the sign, we will remember him. Peter faced this horrible disease with unbelievable courage, and he gave us insight of his incredible strength and spirit. What an inspiration for everyone who knew him. Although, Sheila, we are in Arizona, and won't be able to attend the service, please know that we will be there in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Peter…Bernie and Lana
