Peter Matthews Obituary

MATTHEWS, Peter Traynor - Peter was born on October 25, 1916 in Weyburn, SK to Mary Helena Traynor and Peter Matthews of the Irish Block, Owen Sound, ON. Peacefully he slipped into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. Peter is predeceased by the love of his life: Betty (1980) and seven siblings: Joseph, Madeline (Doc Grady), Stan (Eleanor), Joan (Reg), Vince (Marguerite, Ruth), Tom and Wilfred (Opal). Dad was always grateful to have been educated by the Jesuits at Campion College, University of Manitoba. Known as 'The Babe' in Boxing and University Football circles, Peter's athleticism prepared him well for a 30 year career in Sales/Marketing with CIL Inc. - Chemical Division. From the early 1950s to the early 1980s, Dad's career took him and his family to Winnipeg, Burlington, Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Oakville. Living at Carmel Heights Senior Residence in Mississauga, ON, he attended daily Mass which helped sustain him in his later years. Peter leaves behind his children: Patrick (Heather) of Brampton, Wendy McCormack (Dave) of Brights Grove and Michael (Christine) of Ottawa. Papa Pete will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Ryan, Sean, Andrew, Joseph, Ruslan, Lukash, Zakhar and Daryan. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews as their 'Uncle Babe' and deeply missed by all that knew him. The Matthews family are particularly grateful for the love and care that Peter received at Carmel Heights and more recently at the McCall Centre (Etobicoke) and Marshall Gowland Manor (Sarnia). A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Peter at a later date. We will 'keep punchin' just as you've done, Dad!. Arrangements entrusted to McCormack Funeral Home - Stewart Chapel, Sarnia .

We will miss Uncle Babe dearly. Always shared a joke and loved his football. The Fighting Irish will be short their best fan. Know that he is reunited with his beloved Betty and brothers and sisters. St. Patricks Day will be a little less green next year.

We are sad to see a dear Uncle pass on, but we know he is with his maker and his beloved late wife Betty. He will be missed, but he has left many cherished moments for us to remember. God Bless to all the family. Vic & Rita Adamache, Medstead Sask.
