Peter Traynor Obituary

Peter Edward TRAYNOR

Born April 28, 1940, passed away suddenly May 7, 2016, in his 77th year. Beloved son of Edward and Nan Traynor (predeceased), survived by his brother Stephen (Loretta), his son Devan (Carla), his step-son Tyson, his grandson Ryder and his nephews Neil, Mark and Paul (Jennifer). Co-founder with Jack Long of Traynor Amplifiers/Yorkville Sound, he was a musical pioneer and visionary whose vast contributions to the world of instrument amplification and live concert sound will be remembered by generations of musicians for years to come. A musical icon, his work made and shaped the history of Rock 'n' Roll in Canada and around the world. His immense intelligence, humour, kindness and generosity were felt by all who knew him and to know him really was to love him. A one of a kind original who touched and impacted everyone he met, the world will never see the likes of him again. He now shines brightly for the ages through his work and in the hearts and minds of his family and friends. There will be a public memorial in the months to come with further details.

Rented a Trainer from L&M in Vancouver in 1970. Helped launch a long association with playing music. Currently use Quarterhorse and YCD-80, amongst other things. Thanks for all you've done.

Still Rockin after all of these years. Good times.

God Bless you Pete. My whole life would have been much different without you. Thank you for everything; including your countenance, humour, yes, sound equipment, presence at gigs, evenings of stories and Appleton Estate tours. It was an honour to call you a friend, mentor and neighbour. Until we meet again.

What can I say? The incredible life and legacy of Peter Trainer... a technician whom along with fellow musician and entrepreneur Jack Long helped nurture the Canadian music scene. Their influence has indeed not on;y affected the Canadian music scene but the whole music scene around the world. Trainer amps and amps made by Yorkville Sound (the company Peter and Jack founded) are sold throughout the world!

I have been one of the privileged that have been given the task of continuing the legacy of what Peter and Jack had started. I take this rather seriously, for I stand upon the shoulders of two giants. Jack is still making his mark, a great man he is... and he still runs Yorkville Sound (whom make Trainer Amps!)

Peter, you will not be forgotten and you are celebrated overtime a musical note is being played!

When I started gigiing in the 60's everybody used Traynor amps. It wasn't until the 70's that I realized there were amps other than Traynor. Thanks Pete.

Farewell Pete. You were a very special gift to the world of musicians. Not only did you help us all get started and carry on, but you did it with a wonderful sense of humour . Your help and friendship to me were greatly appreciated and will be sorely missed. And now in the great up there, there will finally be great sound for those musicians who preceded you . God bless you Peter Traynor , you will be sorely missed.

I grew up near Peter on WInston CHurchill Drive and went to school with Stephen. We younger Blantyre kids were always in awe of Stephens' impressive older bro.

Smooth sailing to unknown musical ports, Peter.--Diana Swift

Story teller supreme.....hours spent with Pete always dipped into the well of music history and a myriad of inside stories and anecdotes were always there waiting to be revealed! I will never regret the encounters we had because each became a little adventure unto itself! No one quite like him, before or since...I have only smiles for every word and moment!
