Thinking of you, Zezel! Big fan of yours from when you were with the Flyers. I'll share a story. I never got to meet him while he was a Flyer. I was devasted when he got traded and I just knew my chances of ever meeting him were basically none. Well, not true!! A friend of mines who was a Professional Boxer and was scheduled to fight this one night in Atlantic city and I was there...sitting in my seat with family n friends. I look to the side and OMG....it's PETER ZEZEL!! And he sits right in front of me. I was freaking out! What are the chances. Here he is. ZEZEL...Right in front of me. I was his biggest fa. Went to see him play in so many games. Adore him. Never thought I would meet him after he got traded and he's right in front of me and he was the sweetest person ever, we talked and took pictures. I shared with him that I was his biggest fan and how I thought I would never meet him. The next day he was scheduled to do an autograph signing at a sneaker store in Berlin NJ. My friend had someone he knew developed the pics overnight that we had taken and yes, I showed up to the signing with the pic that him and I had just taken the night before..I remember him smiling when he saw me and the pic. Probably thinking...this girl is crazy!! Thanks for the memories Zezel! RIP! always in our hearts!

Peter, I am a Flyers fan and I have been watching NHL for decades. So I have heard of many trades through the years. But I don't remember distinctly any of them but yours. Like momentous occasions I remember where I was & what I was doing when I heard you were traded to St. Louis. I was in my car and I heard, "Flyers fan favorite, Peter Zezel, has been traded to the St Louis Blues. " I thought, "Oh, this is NOT good. Many people are going to be upset." Then the d.j. got back on the radio and started talking about all the charity work and appearances you did in the Phila. area. I also remember when you had to play against the Flyers the first time as a St. Louis Blue. The game was in Philadelphia. We Flyers fans were wondering how you were going to do. To be honest, that night, all Flyers fans were St. Louis fans. You were Great ! You scored a hat trick. Flyers fans were thrilled & felt you gave the Flyers management what they deserved. St Louis won that game. I was a special ed teacher and I had a student that idolized you. Peter, not many professional athletes would ask for a transfer so to be near a sick relative. Many professional athletes would not even THINK about quitting their sport when they did not get that transfer. But you did. Many athletes today need to learn from your example You were one in a million. Now I wish you and Jillian MANY beautiful tulips to smell. Although we never met, could you and Jillian look out for me ? Thank you.

Peter Zezel was one of the finest players to play for the Maple Leafs in Toronto. Three years ago, it was a big surprise to hear that Zezel had serious blood disorder, and he made one of the greatest sacrifices ever: Peter donated his ailing organs to the Trillium Gift of Life Network. Hope you're playing hockey in heaven, Peter.

It's been many years since the death of Peter Zezel, but I was reminded of him today with the mention of the movie, Youngblood. I then googled his name to reminisce his life story and found this site. I want to share a story about the kind of guy Peter was.
I was a huge hockey fan and my brother worked at the local ice rink that the team used for practices. I had been at several practices and of course, Peter caught my eye! Not just because of his good looks, but as I have said..I was a huge hockey fan! I loved to watch him play. When he was on the ice, he was only "On the ice!" His dedication and determination was all hockey! Well, It was in the late 80's and Peter was in the Stanley Cup playoffs with the Flyers. It was an away game, so like many hockey fans, I watched from a local pub here in New Jersey. I was told that I was no fun that night because I was consumed in the game instead of out on the dance floor with my friends, but my heart was with the game and with Peter Zezel! The game was intense, but in the end the Flyers had lost and ended the season! I was crushed! As I looked up at the TV, Peter was being interviewed. My heart was heavy! It was then that I decided to make up posters and decorate his front door so that he would be reminded of what a great season and game he had! I rounded up my girls and set out on a mission! My friends thought I was crazy, but they went along with it. We decorated his front door with anything we could get our hands on and it looked good. The next morning, as I drove to work, I wondered what he thought of his front door decore. Well, as I was listening to the radio, before going into work....I heard Peter being interviewed. He talked of the game and his disappointment of loosing and then mentioned that he was grateful to the fans that had taken the time to welcome him home and fill his heart with some much needed joy! He even mentioned our names as we had signed our artwork we left for him. Peter Zezel had made my day..week...month..and years! He was one of a kind! Thank you, Peter, for being a class act human being!

So much is being said about Peter the "Hockey Player", but he was so much more than that. He had a wonderful life full of wonderful friends, a girlfriend he adored for 14 years, who adored him. As friends, we share special memories of Peter the man. He made his mark in the Hockey world, but an even bigger one in his private life with the ones he loved and all those special people who had the honour of belonging to Peter's private world will miss him terribly, he
will live and be loved in a hearts forever!

Zezel family,
The Serbian community of London joins us in extending to you our deepest sympathy upon the loss of your son Peter. Over the years Peter supported our golf tournament and everyone enjoyed his presence. He was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word, and we doubt there are many men who possess his high regard for others in such great quantites. It was a great privilege to have known Peter, and we shall sincerely miss him.

My thoughts & prayers are with Peter's family & friends. May you find comfort in God's hands. I had the pleasure of being one of those friends while he played here in Philly. I will cherish the memories of the Flyers cruises we went on, and nights we spent dancing the night away at the local clubs here in Philly and at the Jersey shore. He would request my favorite song then ask me to dance. My heart broke the day I learned of his passing. He has taken a big piece of my heart with him. He was the most kind & gentle man I ever knew. He will be greatly missed by many. Love you & miss you Peter!!!! May you rest in peace now that you have rejoined your dear niece Jillian

To the Zezel Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this diffcult time. Peter made hockey very interesting for alot of teenage girls in Philly. He had us hooked from the moment we first saw that smile of his and those eyes. Next thing you knew it was us girls asking for tickets to the Flyers games with hopes that we could catch a glimpse of Peter in person.
#25 will always be a Philadelphia fan favorite. Peter will never be forgotten by Philadelphia Flyers fans.
Thank you to the Zezel family for sharing Peter with us, And to Peter: Thank you for the memories.
RIP....

Peter was an amazing man. I didn't know him personally, but I know he took the time to meet with me after an Albany game to give and sign a stick for me. Tuesday and Wednesday were the saddest days of my life. I've "loved" him since I was 11 years old. I will never forget him and all he has done for the game of hockey and the fans that love it. God bless him and his family.

My deepest condolences got the Zezel family. I was out of the country when Peter passed and was devastated to hear he was gone. I was blessed to have met Peter when he played here for the Leafs. He was truly one of a kind. I have memories of him that will last forever. Although we went our separate ways and found new loves in our lives, I will never forget all the time we spent together - especially at the Atlantis. Peter just loved the Bahamas. I remember our phone conversation about 1 month ago. I never thought it would be our last. My heart is broken.
May you rest in peace my dear friend and know that you will never be forgotten.

Peter was a neighbour until his sudden passing. He was immediately endearing and incredibly generous. He invited me out to play a game of golf at St. George's before I hardly knew him and, after helping him out with his new snow blower, not only did he lend it to us but he gratuitously cleared our driveway after a heavy snowfall. He was a real prince of a guy--attributable I think to his fun-loving mother Val.
Rest in peace Peter. We'll miss you.

To the Zezel family, I send you my condolences. Peter was one of my favorite players whenver he came to Winnipeg to play the Jets. No matter whether he played on Philly, St. Louis, Toronto, or otherwise, I've always enjoyed watching him. And it is with profound sadness that we all try to make sense of the sudden passing of a beloved role model, both as an athlete and a human being. Tens of thousands of fans all over North America grieve, also, making it almost impossible to imagine the pain his devoted and loving family must be feeling. It's difficult to lose anyone in the prime of their life, but when it is someone who was so giving and selfless and loved by all whom he met, it is all compounded. Please know that you are all in the thoughts and prayers of so many fans across Canada and the US. And I hope the words of several hundred fans can bring you some degree of comfort in the difficult days ahead. The world is left a better place since he spent a few decades in it.

I was instantly hooked on Peter when he arrived in Philadelphia. I became a fan of his and like many of the female fans, proudly wore his #25 jersey. I remember my father calling me to tell me he had been traded to St. Louis. My heart sank as I confirmed his trade on the news.
Tuesday, I got emails and phone calls asking if I heard about Peter Zezel dying. I didn't believe it, then read about his worsening condition. I didn't think my heart could sink any further than it did the day he got traded from the Flyers. But it did when I learned of his passing.
I still have your #25 jersey, Peter...it will serve as a reminder what a wonderful human being you were--on and off the ice.

My condolences and deepest sympathies to the Zezel family on your loss of one the world's greatest gifts ~ Peter! Althought I didn't keep in touch with Peter over the years, I often thought of him and how proud his family must be! He was a beautiful soul with a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed by everyone that came into his life and everyone that was enriched by his selflessness, generosity, spirit, and amazing smile. Oh that smile!!! Many a girl at Birchmount Park C.I. could tell you about that smile, including me!!!
Peter, you will be remembered as a hero who left his mark on this world! Thank you Zezel family for enriching our lives with an amazing person who left this earth way too soon!
God speed Peter, until we meet again!

In such great sadness I'm sending heartfelt condolences to the Zezel family.
Peter was an incredible person who always spoke so proudly of his family. I am grateful that we crossed paths, the wonderful memories will always live forever in my heart. My family and I met Peter on a Flyers cruise and we became close friends. My Dad loved hanging with Pete and I always said he was crazy letting my Dad hang with him. My family was devistated when we heard the news and regret that we did not stay in close contact throughout the years fortunately we will always have the many memories that will never fade.
Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.
Rest in peace my friend

As a little girl I spent my allowance on hockey cards, ripping the pack to check the stats on the back. In my teens, I bought them in the hopes of getting Zezel cards for the view on the front. As an adult I realized stats and looks meant nothing - character did, and Peter's is why I sent my child to his camp. It never dawned on me that I would be the one getting lessons by example in patience, kindness, humility, leadership, respect, and giving. You gave me and my son the gift of dear friends, people with whom to celebrate your life and mourn your passing. Peter, I know I drove you crazy with all my questions, but you always answered with a smile. Your encouragement and support of my dream mean more than words can express. My son and I will treasure every moment and memory.
Our deepest sympathies to Alida and sons, and to the Zezels. Peter was your son but he will always be Toronto's Boy from the Bluffs.

My friends and I met Peter he's 2nd year as a Flyer. One look at that face and you were hooked. Getting to know him you saw more than just he's pretty face. Peter was a sweet kind soul who I adored. When he was traded my heart broke and we lost touch. My heart is again broken much more deeper. I will always remember this lovely soul, beautiful man and one heck of a hockey player. See you again sweet angel. To Peter's family, are hearts are with you all. God Bless you

I played soccer with Pete on the Canadian National U19 team in 1982. We were room mates during the Concacaf World Cup qualifying tournament in Guatemala. I remember him telling me that he was going to play in the NHL. I had played for the NY Cosmos and we talked a lot about being a pro athlete. I wasn't surprised to see him drafted by the Flyers. He was such a great soccer player as well! We had a lot of good memories during those days and I will miss reading about all the great things he was doing after his brilliant hockey career. He was truly a gentleman and a genuine guy. He surely touched the hearts of a lot of people.I am deeply saddened by his passing and even though I never met his family, they must be very proud of everything Pete had done during his life. My deepest condolences to his family.

Our deepest sympathies to the Zezel family along with all Peter's dear friends. It is such a tragic loss. Much too young, much too soon. My husband and family had the pleasure of sharing some great times with Peter. He was such a great guy with a heart of gold. He had a great sense of humour and he will be missed by many who knew and loved him. Peter, Rest in Peace as you will be forever missed and never forgotten.

Peter...our hearts are broken. Like you did with so many others, you gave generously to my boys and I in a time of need. It was our honour to have known you, even so briefly. Until we meet again. My sincere condolences to the Zezel family.

I met Peter Zezel at an IP Festival in Mississauga. I remember how gracious he was with all the children and parents. He was always a good listener and would take the time to share a laugh or shake a hand or flash his famous smile for pictures. He was always ready with a Sharpie - fully understanding how special that moment could be for these budding hockey players. Over the years my son Thomas has had the privilege to have Peter run practices for his team. Thomas would also like to acknowledge all the wonderful coaches at Peter's hockey school - Jim, Sam, Peter and Chris for always helping him with his skates - and making him a better person - showing him how to stay disciplined and how to achieve success the right way.
Peter was always willing to help in anyway and was always there to listen and offer advice and support.
Our deepest condolences go to Peter's family - he was a wonderful person and friend.

Peter and I met in Kindergarten at Birch Cliff Public School back in 1970. We became as fast friends as five-year-olds can be. I remember hanging out at his house and him showing me his collection of taped-together black-rimmed glasses that he had broken, just being him. There was a drawer full of them in his bedroom. Fast forward a few years and we're playing road hockey in front of my parent's house and "Mesmo" was showing signs of greatness. He led the Valhalla Hockey League (road hockey), outscoring his nearest competitor by at least five to one. Always with a smile, once he'd asserted his dominance, he'd chuckle watching the rest of us mere mortals. Fast forward again and he's in the Stanley Cup finals with the Flyers. Facing off against Gretzky. Wow. It's been a while Peter, but I will miss you. Godspeed, my friend.

My deepest of sympathies to entire Zezel family.
As a Toronto Boy who idolized Peter growing up, I had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time this past November. He was my linemate in a Charity Hockey Tournament in Markham, Ontario.
It is rare that you find such a humbling individual that truly brings out smiles and laughter in every individual he encounters.
He was absolute pleasure to be around and for the short time that I got to know him, he truly left a lasting impression that will always be remembered.
I will miss you, Brachko.

Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends. Our Canadian boys hockey team will continue Peter's spirt throught our next tournment. The Scullions

To Neda and the entire Zezel family my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of transition. I remember Peter in Birch Cliff P.S. always with the soccer ball, and his black glasses. In such a short time Peter was able to bring much hope and happiness to multitudes of friends, family and fans. May his love of sports and family be his legacy. Namaste Peter.
