Philip Bradbury Obituary

PHILIP ARTHUR BRADBURY July 26, 1923 - May 2, 2009 It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and brother, who passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at his home in Toronto. Survived by his wife Bernice (nee Doty), with whom he recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Loving father of Patricia (Ross), Stephen, Carol, Michelle (Dave) and Philip (Cathy). He took great pride in all of his 23 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren. Born in Sheffield, England in 1923 he moved to Canada in 1925 with his parents and brother. Philip served in the R.C.A.F. from 1941 to 1945 and completed 34 missions as a Tail Gunner in the Halifax and Lancaster Bombers and survived 2 crash landings. He also served on the RCAF Boxing team and RCAF All Star Hockey team. He was employed for many years in the insurance industry, where, in 1975 he became President of Chateau Insurance Company, during which time, after completing three major acquisitions of large Canadian and American insurance companies, Chateau became one of Canada's leaders in commercial and industrial insurance. He was an ardent fisherman over the years, particularly while living in Ottawa, where he wrote a monthly article "Angling around with Phil" for a local sports magazine. He coached the Ottawa Minor League Pee Wee and Bantam All Star Hockey teams to the Silver Stick Championships, two years in a row in Lake Placid, New York. He also coached and managed Ottawa's first Junior "A" Team, All Star Midget Team, The Ottawa Mustangs. During this period a number of his players were recruited and later played in the NHL. He enjoyed playing golf on a very regular basis with his many friends at Bayview Golf and Country Club in Markham, where he served on numerous committees as well as on the Board of Directors and President in 1990 - 91. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd (21 Simonston Blvd.). Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ShareLife Foundation would be appreciated. Condolences www.rskane.ca.

Dear Aunt Bernice & family:

It is with great sadness that I write this. We have such wonderful memories of an amazing man. His muscle shirts around the pool, fishing at the cottage, my dad and him doing their demonstration of "beached whales" in the Bahamas. Love the Gorman family
