Phyllis HARJES Obituary
HARJES, Phyllis Lenora (David) Passed away on November 11, 2021, at the age of 99, at her home in Toronto, Ontario. Phyllis was born on April 16, 1922, in North Port, Ontario, and married her husband, Archie, on August 16, 1958. Many of her early years were spent on the farm at Mount Pleasant where she learned country cooking and was known later in life for the quality of her "Taffy Tarts and Sticky Buns". She had a variety of jobs before completing her education training at Queen's University and settling into a fruitful teaching career in Etobicoke. Phyllis left the classroom to raise a family with Archie, with whom she shared a fondness for all things British. They enjoyed many trips through their beloved Cotswolds as well as TV series such as Doc Martin and Corrie, among others. Phyllis had a lifelong interest in learning and part of that was her love of books. Besides the numerous books at hand, there were always word puzzles and bridge columns from the newspaper. She was an avid reader and bridge player her entire life, with a long memory and a gift for storytelling. Always fashion conscious, Phyllis enjoyed being ever on the lookout for unusual clothing and bits of jewelry. She was an optimist who always preferred to look on the bright side of life and will forever be remembered lovingly by many who knew her. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Archie and survived by her children, Mark, Carol and her husband, Paul, Tim and his wife, Liz, and grandchildren Alyssa, Emily, Evan, Liam and Sarah. She was particularly fond of her late niece, Susan and her nephews, David and Eric. Many thanks to the caring staff at Delmanor (Prince Edward). It was Phyllis' wish, that there would be no funeral/memorial service, and in her memory to "live every day to the fullest".
