PIETRO CRISTILLO Obituary

PIETRO (PETER) NICOLA CRISTILLO It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pietro (Peter) Nicola Cristillo, who with his family at his side, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the age of 79. Peter was a humble and hardworking man, who began building a life for his family from the moment he arrived to Canada from his native Macchiagodena, Italy in 1952. With ten loaned dollars in his pocket, Peter sought to create a new life in Canada, working tirelessly to send money home to help support his family in Italy and sponsor family members to Canada, all while working towards creating a future for himself and his family. Ambitious to educate himself and provide for his family, Peter worked tirelessly to educate himself both in English and in the field of construction, attending various night schools where he achieved a CET. For over 50 years, Peter served as a General Superintendent Project Manager on many of Toronto's renowned landmarks, such as St. James Town, King's Landing and Markham Civic Centre. Even after his retirement, Peter always had a project on the go, whether at the cottage, or in his workshop at home. Peter was a humble man of integrity and hard work, who left behind a legacy of love and generosity and countless stories and life lessons that will live on through the family he held so close to his heart. Peter will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Giovanna and their three children Donna (Sam) Narducci, Danny (Marie) Cristillo, Rocky (Linda) Cristillo and his 6 grandchildren, Nadia, Jason, Andrew, Jordan, Lucas and Andre. Peter will be also fondly remembered by his siblings John (Joanne) Cristillo, Tony (Frances) Cristillo and Filomena (Ben) Verdile, along with a large extended family of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, 8911 Woodbine Avenue, on Tuesday, April 16th from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Service will be held at Our Lady Queen of the World, 10411 Bayview Avenue, on Wednesday, April 17th at 11 a.m.

My heart felt condolances. I had the pleasure of meeting Pietro sometime ago; I will never forget the great way he made me feel when he referred to me as the "bachelor". Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

It was a honor to be able to nurse your father in his final days. The amount of love and support that you his family showed is beyond measure. Take pride in that fact that you were there for him until the end. My condolances to you all.
